PS3 says DNS error (80710102) when i try to connect to the internet with a wired connection

Hi, it would be marvelous to sit back and play challenges online with my new PS3 console :D Although ... with help from my ISP (AOL) with the connection details i need it still doesn't work! When going through the settings manually the console recognises my IP address but not the DNS. When contacting AOL with the info they gave me i'm only given one DNS code or (DNS Server) from my comp? Which could be why its not connecting? When trying automatic for the console to recognise the server itself, neither options IP or DNS work but misrably fail. I've read on reviews i may need to change my firewall settings, but i think the DNS needs to be correct first from what the PS3 Internet Connections Settings say. Any help would be much appreciated, i will work for food ! i just bought a new ps3 and im trying to get the online set up. i have tried everything and nothing seems to work every time i try to set up the options i get the same error code-Ps3 dns error 80710102 can anybody help. my internet service is comcast

Goto the command prompt bar in the start menu type ' cmd ' then click o.k . A black dos screen will appear type in ' ipconfig/all ' and it will the the two servers you need under dns servers but if your doing a wired connection to your ps3 then you need to manually configure your dns on the custom method of setting up your internet connection on your ps3 as if this is auto config that will give you a dns error. Hope that helps ,I can go into more detail and guide you through it if need to .

SOURCE: PS3 says DNS error (80710102) when i try to connect to the internet with a wired connection

try this
So what I found out was to put in the IP address you find in ipconfig/all but add one to the last octive. Example if yours is 172.16.1.25... then in your ps3 type in 172.16.1.26

Then I was using the primary and secondary DNS numbers that my computer was giving me in ipconfig/all. Do not use those. For your primary DNS number use the number for your default which should be a right below your subnet mask number. For the secondary DNS number just leave it blank. 0.0.0.0

Then you have to upgrade to version 1.50 (which just came out yesterday actually). Get a memory stick with at least 100mb space on it. Make a new folder that is names PS3. Inside that folder make another new one that is called UPDATE. Both must be in capitol letters. Then go to PlayStation.com - PLAYSTATION®3 - Network - updates and click on "download now"... Then click save and save it to your memory stick in the UPDATE file, which should be in your PS3 file.

Then after all is done... plug that into your ps3 in one of the USB ports for the controllers. In the main screen go to SETTINGS and then go to SYSTEM UPDATE. Go to UPDATE VIA STORAGE MEDIA. PS3 will search for your media stick and it should say on the screen The latest update data was found... Version 1.50. Click OK and follow the rest of the instructions. After it is completely done... go back to the internet connection setup and go through all the menus to make sure all your numbers are the same as I stated above. Then at the end run the connection test. It should work!

for mine i tried other fixes and they didn't work. Turns our my router had enabled security but the PS3 had forgotten the password (WEP key).

I turned off the WEP on my router and the PS3 suddenly found its connection.

To say I was getting stressed is an understatement, Sony should put something on their website, it seems like a really commonm problem to which people have no clear route to solution.

How do you open nat type on the ps3 ?

Nat type is actually defined by your isp..(internet service provider) some companies do not actually support gaming and therefore their service is considered "strict" by ps3 standards for multiplayer gaming online. You may have to reconfigure your pc internet security settings on the computer itself...possibly logging into your router/modem. If this is not helpful or u are unsure of how to do this, contact your isp and explain to them you want the nat type changed...basically they will either not be able to at all and then u need a new isp or they can do it in a matter of minutes and ur nat type will change and give u full access to ps3 online within a matter of hours...hope it helps and u get back to gaming!

When turning on my playstation this error 80710092 stopping me being able to play

Hi. This could be a problem with your ISP. Your PS3 cant resolve DNS to your router. Try to turn off your router and your DSL modem fro 10 secs and turn it back on.

Have a good one!

I need to get my p3 back on line i moved from house to the next i have the same entrnet service but it wont log in so that i can play my call of duty online can you help

You may need to start a new account because it may reference your ISP address to log on all just because of change of address.Isn't technology wonderful?I am not 100% sure but that's what it sounds like.
Here is a toll free link to Sony to make sure.Good luck and game on!

I play NHL09 online with my PS3. I have Comcast

I think you may find that this will be entirely your isp. do you have a particular broadband cap and have you used it all? have you tried it with any success with any other online multiplayer games? One thing you can try is to hardwire your ps3 to your router and see how you go

Try changing the ISP from your Network Options menu. Change it to something random. And then try your ISP or 127.0.0.1 Hope this helped.

Motorola H350 doesn't connect...

The issue is with the PS3s compatibility with the H350. Sony should be fixing some of the issues with an update, but from what i've checked online, the H350 is a problematic headset. i just got one as well, and have connection issues with it online.
