My cd Dvd drive is not working. I put in disks and it can't read them. I checked the device manager and it says it is working fine. My computer is a couple of years old.
Try cleaning the lens with alcohol and a q-tips, if it doesn't work you is probably defective.
Try booting a DOS boot disk if that works, your windows as a problem
if it does not work your reader is dead.
Download memtest and try it, its a memtest utility that runs in DOS.
Memtest
Try a damp q-tip with glass cleaner and gently wipe off the laser of the drive. This will make sure there is no dust or dirt affecting the laser.
If this doesn't do the trick then the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.
Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area
hope this helps you
