I have a Brother MFC 8660DN, I need an overview w/machine parts named, I think. I keep getting a message that says "no paper", which I assume means the tray at the bottom front of the machine, and no matter that I have loaded and reloaded that tray, I get the same message. Is there something I've neglected?

check her but not sure this manual will give you enough info.. http://www.retrevo.com/support/Brother-MFC-8660DN-Multifunction-Printers-manual/id/386ci852/t/2/
Pull the paper tray, likley a small black lever to the left of the roller called the edge actuator is dislodged and hanging down. When in position the actuator should easily push up and appear flat next to the roller.
That type of problem comes from either the drum or the fuser, the best way to check is to unplug the machine while it's printing and see of the shadow is on the paper before the fuser, if it is then you need a new drum, if not the fuser is the culprit.
That error, usually means that the engine PCB is bad. If you call brother they'll tell you to check the print count, and if it's a certain number, all you can do is replace that PCB. It runs around $400.00.
I recently changed the fuser gear on my MFC-8840DN (a similar machine) and type up detailed information. The pdf file of the instructions has been posted at:
