Always look for a tiny hole (in the back) that reads RESET. If none exists, maybe a push on a DISPLAY button? Try combinations (pressing simultaneously) - you cant break anything!

Error codes definitions are bit technical and as follows...

C:31:30 error code shows problem of No FG signal when starting capstan motor.
C:31:23 error code shows problem of No S reel signal to system control.

Above info were taken from service manual and picture of service manual can be seen below...
Need further info, let me know.

error C3125 is cause by SE board and tape jam.So what u do is cake the 3 main cable going from Compartment to VE board.if u had open them.That is main problem.

My Sony model DSR-25 Videocassette Recorder will not play any tapes right now, due to a C3140 error. It occurred the other day when a tape I inserted was sticking. Does someone actually know what this error really means ?

U can do one thing check the switch at the front of DSR is in remote or not. If it is not then.Then press the reset switch is just below the the LCD. or Press eject button with pressing power supply .

Our sony dsr 45 is giving us a C:31:41 Error code shortly after tape is inserted.
error cause by drum head, u can try fix by ur self, open the compart then open the black drumhead cap,u can see to screw on the upper head open,then u can see rubber pick it up clean the rubber and the con inside outside head, try again if doesn't work u can change the drum head

Sony DSR 45P error code C3125
Press the power butten several times while holding down the eject button. It will solve your problem and clear the error. If it not then there is something wrong with your reel motor or the circuitery which deals the reel motor. You must consult your nearby sony service center.

Sony DSR-45 will not eject tape nor play,ff,rewind shows error
The generic error codes C32:xx indicate that a motor is not functioning. If you have not worked on these machines before, extreme caution is advised. These have extremely sensitive alignments that can easily be disturbed.

Please update this with your familiarity with these machines and I'll try to provide additional directions.

DSR 25
C:31:23 on a DSR-25 indicates a supply reel problem, most likely caused by a defective cassette housing. Best repair solution is to send it to an authorized Sony repair center.

C:31:40 is "FG fault when starting drum." In plain terms, the video head assembly is not producing a feedback signal that tells the control circuitry that the heads are spinning. Most probable cause is a bad drum assembly, but check to make sure the flex cable going to the drum is properly seated.
