SOURCE: how long should battery for a sony vaio-ns pc/laptop last?charge?

battery life is always dependent on what "settings" you have for the "power" (the icon of the battery, next to the clock), and also how do you use the system. for example if you use it gaming kiss you battery lasting goodbye, if you use it for business, and like your screen very bright, your battery drains faster, if you are using you laptop and NOT using the wireless (not browsing the internet wirelessly), turn that wireless OFF, and ON when only you need it. BUT typically 2 hours tends to be fair among laptops. (some of them claim to last 8 hours, but again we might be talking mac here).
are u supposed to keep battery plugged in? well, if you are in the office, i would say yes, since u never know when u need to leave and need it on the go.
would you wait until battery is almost drained and then recharge? I would not recommend it. note, if you do, make sure you allow enough time for "warning" before you computer goes to hybernate, or just shut down (settings in the power settings, icon of battery on the bottom right) or from the control panel.
good luck.

Sony vaio not charging while charger plugged in

Seemingly your laptop dc jack is dead. How to confirm it? If you should wiggle your laptop charger on a position to let your laptop charge, it indicates your dc jack is loose. Either replace it or repair it. If your dc jack works well, please check your ac adapter. Maybe your charger is dead.

Try A Hard Reset

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Sony Vaio laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop.

This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset.

Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord
and turn your laptop on.

If that does't work try removing ram and reinstall. Sometime this works with these laptops.

My VAIO doesnt seem to charge up when connected to the power supply button at times it works then power depletes very quickly.

How long did your Sony VAIO battery been used? Li-ion battery's life is about 2 years. And you can do a battery capacity correction by your VAIO's Battery management software and to see that if the problem get better. else you need a new Sony VAIO battery.
