Nothing in viewfinder screen

I took a few pictures outside, but when downloading noticed it was just a redish screen. So I took some pics inside. One out of 3 was a red screen. Then I took some more pictures outside and they were perfect. Then a few days later I went to take pics outside and the viewfinder screen was moving but it was black but you could see lines, sort of. I replaced the batteries, but still nothing. This is a great camera and has always worked perfectly. I dont even know where to take it for service or if it is still under warranty. I have had it for 3 years. I hope you can help me. Thank you

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.

Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to [email protected]

I have the PS S500. It will not take pictures now, it flashes, but there is nothing on the playback. In fact, when I look at the image before taking a pic, there is nothing there. Sort of like there is...

is the screen displaying anything at all? if not have you tried looking into the viewfinder? occasionally cameras with viewfinders will display pictures on in the viewfinder and not the screen.
Try taking a photo and then check to see if the photo is there on a computer.
other than this, the camera unit inside the camera may have become damaged or detached, it this is the case, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do

I want to take pictures outside but i cant see it on the screen what do i do

There's nothing you can do. When they took away the viewfinder, it became almost impossible to shoot outside in bright sun. Some high-end cameras automatically brighten the screen but even that isn't much help.

All of a sudden everything is out of focus and very blurry, pictures and even through the view finder. we took a few pics tht turned out normal, set the camera down picked it up about 5-10 minutes later...

If the viewfinder is also blurry, it might be as simple as a smudge on the lens. Is the blur uniform and consistent on the pictures and in the viewfinder? Was there a curious dog nearby when you set the camera down?:)

Canon S2 IS - LCD screen is white after taking an outside picture

the image is all white or has lines through it.Definitely sounds like a repair issue, and has been a previous problem with the camera in the past. There is a defect in the sensor of the camera, and happens quite frequently in this model. I would try and contact Canon about it, and see if they'll repair it for free. If not, its probably going to cost more than the camera is worth to repair it.

Red verticle lines

the redish hue usually mean that the camera doesn't have enough light to take a good quality pic. If daytime pictures taken outside still look the same take it back or get a new camera.

Viewfinder/lens problems

Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Walmart sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance. Really, you'll slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

And yes, your camera's optical viewfinder is off by a couple inches from what's show in the LCD. Take a look at the front of your camera. This offest is equal to the distance between the other end of the optical viewfinder, and your camera's lens. This should only be a problem for close up pictures. Recommend leaving your LCD on and using that to center your pictures. If using rechargeables, it shouldn't be a problem.

Kodak CX7330. turns on but LCD screen is black and won't take a pic

It sounds like a bad connection on the ribbon cable of the LCD screen to the camera's motherboard. The fact that when you physically move the camera around and you can get the screen to then work, tells me something is loose inside.

Good luck!
