Sleep isn't something that we can do without. Not everyone seems to need the same amout of hours sleep but a block of sleep is necessary every night in order to function well during the day.
Insomnia is a problem on some level for millions of people world wide and people use all sorts of solutions; from drugs to herbal remedies, meditation to sleep masks.
In order to feel rested, we need to have Deep Sleep. Sleep occurs in cycles. Deep sleep or REM is the fifth of the sleep cycles and is the most important one.
Deep sleep allows our minds to really sift through memories, stress and feelings. The body at this time might appear very active as extremitites can be twitchy and blood pressure and heart rate can increase but actually the body is going through a period of great rest.
So if deep sleep is so good for us - how do we get more of it?
Both quantity and quality matter when it comes to sleep. You need to sleep enough hours so that you have time for deep sleep cycles.
But when it comes to quality of sleep, there are things you can do to help yourself.
- Make sure you dont' have any lights left on. Even small computer lights can disturb sleep.
- Have a regular bedtime routine that you try and follow every day so that your body knows the signals.
- Use sleep masks to aid a deeper sleep. They will block out any tiny light and allow you to really fall into a deep sleep.
- Sleep masks are also really helpful for people who need to sleep with some light on.
Getting a good nights' sleep can help with mood, weight, memory and even our immunity to getting sick.
It's such a simple need and yet so many people don't listen to their bodies.
So I suggest that you invest in a sleep mask, follow the steps above and see if it helps you to feel better.
How to Enable Sleep Mode : 1. Access the main menu on your iPod 2. Go to the extras menu > clock 3. Select your current time ensuring that your timezone settings are correct 4. Select the Sleep Timer options 5. Select the time that you want your iPod to shut down
And if your iPod goes into Deep Sleep Mode then here is the answer to that : Right "Deep Sleep" is a battery saving mode if the iPod is not touched in say a 18-24 hour period I think. It reboots (resets) coming out of this mode.
1) There are people reporting that they must always reset their iPod to turn it back on after shutting it off, they don't really mention deep sleep at all, search for "must always reset" or something along those lines
2) I'm not sure if this is documented anywhere specifically. It is a normal function of the iPod that we discovered somewhere along the line. Not sure where the first talk about it came from, you may find information on this searching "deep sleep" there was a hack to force the iPod immediately into deep sleep once upon a time.
3) Not exactly. If an iPod has gone into deep sleep, plugging it into the power will automatically start the reboot. In the case of buttons you should be able to touch a button and it will start to reboot, I have found with my 3G iPod it takes a very deliberate touch or two or three touches to the touch sensitive buttons to get it to wake up, but you shouldn't HAVE to do the reset command (i.e. menu/select button held down), if you do you may be looking at more of the original problemin #1
