Television "locked"
I was watching television last night and changed channels. all of a sudden, the screen went blank and it said locked at the bottom. I do not have the remote that came with the television, however, i use a universal remote that has always worked. I cannot get it to unlock. ( I don't even know how it locked, since i do not have the remote with the "lock" bottom on it.

This is usually a child lock feature and/or a function to keep people from changing your tv settings when company is over. The only way to get it out is to get the original remote and the manual for the set (would help if we knew the model and make) to unlock it. Sometimes the universal remotes will lock them as i think this is the issue here.

Subtitles keep appearing and even though I switch them off by following the manual's instructions (Press S.Mode then set subtitles to none) but doesn't save the setting and the subtitles reappear when I change channel or turn the TV off and back on again. Any ideas? thx

We had the same problem, you do need the remote control. Select the CH-List button and press the green button to unlock each channel that has the to toggle off the lock symbol. Then press Exit to save the settings
