Maytag neptune 6500 + burn seal?

Last night, I washed some clothes with two pillows. Looks like the pillows were rubbing against the seal? (the plastic thing next to the door) and now that seal has a hole. It is not big but I don´t want to wash until know if that´s really bad (maybe water can enter there). Also, I think because of this the washer was doing a really loud noise almost at the end of the cycle. Can I replace that part? What´s the name of this part? Or something really serious is going on with the machine and maybe I need to start thinking in another one?

In case the hole is in the plastic part and not in the rubber, you can disregard it. The plastic part called- main tub cover. Regarding the loud noise, to my opinion the reason for it was an overloaded machine. Run a new washing cycle (with clothes) and see if it will work properly. Let me know if you will need for any further assistance. Good luck!

Hole in Maytag Neptune front load washer door and flaking or melting of door.

Hello,
I've owned the same Neptune since 1999 and had this problem happen to me twice, the first time the inside molded plastic door melted through in a circular pattern and had to be replaced. The fact that it was circular indicates that something was rubbing during the high speed spin. That something was a stiff bottomed duffle bag that was rubbing on the plastic door during high speed spin. The washer was full of other clothes that didn't allow the duffle bag enough room in the washer tub, hence it pressed against the plastic door. The second time it happened I got a circular groove melted in, but not through, the plastic door... caused this time by a small child's back pack. I would make sure "rigid" items have enough room to "float" in the tub cavity by not putting in other clothing that over packs the washer.

Is there any kind of recall on a Maytay front loading washer, model #MAH6500AWW? I am having problems with mildew in the rubber part and terrible smelling water in the bottom.

The cleaning process for your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer, for example, requires some time and patience. Over time, your washing machine will need to be cleaned. It can develop offensive odors through multiple wash cycles. This makes the washing machine less effective at cleaning the clothes you put into it. Maytag offers some sound advice for cleaning your front-loading washing machine.
  • Pour 2/3 cup of liquid chlorine bleach into the bleach compartment of the dispenser drawer of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer.

  • 2

Run your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer on the "Clean Washer" setting. Press "Start" to start the cycle.

  • 3

Leave the door open once the cycle is complete to allow the inside of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer to ventilate and air dry.

  • 4

Look closely at the gray seal of the Maytag Neptune front-loading washer's door opening. This seal can have a buildup of debris or detergent residue.

  • 5

Spray the seal with an all-purpose appliance cleaner and scrub away any debris or residue with a cloth or scrubbing pad. Dry with a clean cloth.

  • 6

Remove the soap dispenser drawer. Press the release lever and lift it out to clean.

  • 7

Take out the inserts and rinse them and the drawer thoroughly.

  • 8

Wash with a mild soap and cloth to remove any residue. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

  • ALWAYS LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN WHEN NOT IN USE! This prevents the mold and mildew from forming once you get it cleaned.

Loud noise on spin cycle only clothes dry good

Sounds like your bearings and seal need replaced... See Neptune Bearing for information on the Maytag Neptune bearing and 12002022 seal kit. You can also rent a special tool kit that includes the bearings, 12002022 seal kit, bearing spacer, step by step DVD, etc.

I would not run neptune with bad bearings too prevent more damage to the Neptune spinner support, Motor drive system...

    I hope this helps you...

That is exactly what it is, grease. It is coming from the transmission past a worn or defective seal usually the transmission will have to be replaced.

A burning smell while Maytag neptune was washing.

Shut down and unplug machine a.s.a.p.! It could be your door latch wax motor failing which will burn the R11 (resistor) and Q6 (triac) on the machine control board. You did not mention which Neptune you had... If it is a MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500A or a 2000 stacker and you have not replaced the door latch wax motor (12002535) then your time is up. See www.neptunewaxmotor.com for details for the repair kit or you can purchase a new control board and 12002535 wax motor and be up running quickly before the clothes pile get too high.

It could be the seal and/or bearings if the machine is starting to get loud in the high speed spin cycle. If so, See www.neptunebearing.com for the seal and bearing kit plus they offer a special Neptune bearing tool for rent called the tony tool. A Maytag technician will want to charge you $900 to replace the whole outer tub? Why replace it when just the bearings and seal kit need changed?

    Spin Option

The problems posted by kim875 and kirsty2 all seem to be the result of faulty signals from the electronic board. This seems to be a real problem with this model machine. I would try to get board replaced under warranty , if at all possible.
