PS2 SCPH-77001 only read Rock Band disc and DVD movie disc

If a dual layer disc is not functioning, there is a problem with your laser. This is a frequent issue with Playstation 2 consoles. As a laser starts to fail, the first type of disc to stop reading is the dual layer disc. Eventually regular DVDs will start skipping in the middle of the game and loading times will increase. make shaw its not a ps3 game, not trying to be patronizing but ive had 3 people do that brought ps3 games and try to put them in ps2, its true sony are rip off merchants, my advise is not to get a wii ether go for a xbox 360, he will love you for ever. the download content alone you can get for rock band1/2 and guitar hero world tour is worth it

Your lens is repeatedly touching the disc. In the future, this could be a big issue, and it is a sign that your lens is breaking down. On the slimline models, specifically SCPH-70000 models or greater, the lasers are disposable just about. They weaken easily, and they stop working fast. You can get a new laser for about 20 dollars from some websites.

Check some of your discs. If you notice any circular scratches, you'll know that your lens is touching the disc. Does it still read PSX, PS2 games (including DVD-9 dual layer games like Guitar Hero) well? Does it read fast? Can you still watch movies on your PS2? If not, your lens is breaking and you'll need to replace it.

Hi! Here are the tips to get Rock Band work on the ps2: Clean the disc well. Run another disc in the PS2 for about 5 minutes, then try the Rock Band disc. Plug in a standard controller, navigate to the browser screen, and if the PS2 reads the disc, simply select it with the controller. Insert a copy of Rock Band Track Pack (PS2) and let it run until it gets to the Harmonix screen. Quickly switch this disc for the Rock Band disc, and reset the console. Insert the disc so that the "K" in Rock Band on is pointed at roughly 6 O'clock. If the disc isn't read, then open your PS2 and rotate the disc one hour to the right. Repeat this until it is working or until it is back at 6 O'clock. Be careful with your Rock Band disc as some of them barely work to start with, and you don't want to damage it more. iv had a simular problem with that befor u will find that ur lazyer is gone i dont no how much they cost to replace but i dont think its to expensive and if u cannot repair it ur self ur going to have to take it into a gaming store to get it repaird . matt

Whats the SCPH model number? What appears on screen when you put a disc in? If it can read CD's but not DVD,s then this is a classic laser related problem, Possibly a dirty laser or syptoms of a worn laser that requires replacement.
