Search Function I have lost my search function both from START and also when I try to search a folder. My O/S is XP Pro SP2.......IE6 I have tried the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoFind If "NoFind" has the value "01 00 00 00" change it to "00 00 00 00" and it will probably solve your problem. You will need to restart ("log off & log in" will probably suffice). # the above HKEY does not exist in my registry?. Fix search function working by running the following commands: regsvr32 wshom.ocx regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 urlmon.dll Does anyone have a solution other than formatting, my XP CD is not genuine I think, it is called LazyXP ??? and burnt to CD.

    Hi Silverdragon.
Thanks for the info and links.

My symantec AV is updated daily and a scan finds no problems.

I am thinking it is an issue with my O/S (XP)
and the fact that it is not genuine, although I
have been running it for 2 years, I also think
my grandson tried updating from SP3 from MS, he
    denies it of course.

I will read your links...........I have just
found that I cannot click the link to the softwaretips, and other links also not working
    so more problems!!

I downloaded skype but i cannot find it in any of my task bars or folders, then again im not completely positive where to look...any suggestions??

try using the search function above start button in vista >
if xp or below click start, ten search, then choose"all files and folders" then type in Skype in either case. If it shows upright click and choose send to desktop (create shortcut)
If it doesn''t show up in the search then it isn't on your pc and you will have to download again.

Is there a free microsoft registry cleaner for windows XP pro that will go through the process and complete the function without asking me at the end to purchase the software

YES.
CCleaner, this has a registry cleaner built in.
Its free and can clean your temp files, your registry, delete unwanted restore points, and clean up your start up folder, so you can stop unwanted programs starting when you boot up

Unable to Expand a Folder from my XP CD that I NEED!

Have you tried to copy the compressed folder from the disc to your computer desktop and open it there? Give that a try and see if it works.... I have had this happen to a couple customers at work and I just copied the folder from the disc onto the desktop, opened it there and re-installed it. Or you could also try a repair install of the OS but it does carry the possibility of losing your data and programs.

Hi,
Try Scanning your Computer For Computer Viruses.
then re-install Windows XP.
Your files will remain intact, if you select to leave the hard-drive As it is ( rather Than Format it ) or setup on a different Partition.
Backup your Valuable Docs/Files First.
Windows re-installation will replace any Missing-deleted Corrupt Files.
hope This Helps you.
