Brother MFC 4350: Black Streaks on Page

How do I clean the roller on this unit - rubbing alcohol and Q-tips? I consistently get large black streaks on my photocopy pages even though I have a new toner cartridge installed. A friend suggested that I might need to replace the unit if cleaning does not fix the problem.

Suggestions? Other things that I can do to try to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!

Check your office supply store for printer cleaning paper. It is a heavier weight paper that is sticky on both sides. Run it through several tines to get paper dust off the rollers and paper path.

SOURCE: black streaks on printout page

It sounds like excess toner has built up in or around the imaging drum. I would *carefully* remove the toner and drum (can be messy) and use some canned air to clean the inside out. If you are still getting these streaks, it might be time to get a new drum (DR 400) as you are supposed to replace the drum every 6 to 8 times you change the toner cartridge.

SOURCE: Constant blank streaks on both printed and photocopy items.

Hi Wooky,

The streaks are likely only present beside a bold character or heavy print section of the doccument content.
The print head assembly is likely carrying an obscure hair or piece of fluff back and forth which is acting like a paint brush.
The offending fibre is mos likely attached to the adge of the cartridge or print head carriage assembly. Also check the dervice station where the catridge docks when not printing as it can store fibres in the capping and wiping components especially if the printer is situated low to the ground where fibres tend to fly or you have fine haired pet like a cat, rabbit or toy dog.

Best way to clean is to trick the printer to unpark carriage (open top door to trigger carriage to present itself) then uplug power. Now you can move things at will to clean up with moist cotton buds (clean water is best).

Good luck

SOURCE: Canon Pixma IP3500 prints B&W with white streaks

as i can suggest you that it can be the problem of head clogged internally where you insert your black cartridge .and the other main cause is while you give a head cleaning command to get the cartridge cleaned it sucks or pulls  the ink from the cartridge in such a huge quantity that 3-4 cleanings make the cartridge totally empty .due to this the ink gets very low and the printouts come with streaks.many a times setting the print mode in best makes the copy perfect.but the printing gets too slow in that best mode.

SOURCE: My drum is at 40%. I have black vertical streaks

I was going crazy! Had a tech come in and look at the machine - needless to say he did NOTHING! A friend came over and was trying different things. It was that the "rack" that the toner cartridges sit in was not fully seated - once he pushed down a little and heard it "click" I had no more black streaks. AMAZING

SOURCE: I have a BROTHER MFC- 8860DN that makes black streaks on copies

If this is only happening with copies and not straight prints, it is possible that the problem is with the scanning unit. Use the soft cloth to clean the scanner area to the left side of the machine where pages are scanned when run through the page feeder. A spec of dust or other debris in this area will appear as a streak along the length of the page.

If it occurs on all prints, You may need to replace the drum or clean the fuser unit.

Clean the roller and the inside of the machine, asny residue on the roller will cause these black streaks. If cleaning doesn't cure the problem you will need to replace it.

I clean the glass but there are still black streaks

Try scanning the same document in two diff brightness levels (in B&W, say one at 75 and other at say 210. I am assuming you are using CapturePerfect. If the black streaks are same in both the images, then it could be scan module problem. If the streaks vary in size, then it is definitely dirt on the glass. use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean the glass. DONT USE solvents. S. Mohan, Chennai, India

Getting horizontal red streaks across printed page

The drum roller is damaged. You must be careful and spin the cylinder. do not touch the roller. You probably have a line in the roller that causes this issue. Each time i have seen this problem, this was the cause.

THERE ARE LARGE STREAKS OF INK ON ALL COPIES AND

The green roller is the drum which has a cleaning blade to remove excess toner, when the drum gets older it becomes clogged and will dump toner back out onto the drum. Just some info on it. Best fix is replace the drum, you could take it apart and attempt to dump and clean it but it's rarely worth doing that.

First clean the glass of the laser. If you open the front door remove the drum from the machine just above were the drum was in place there is a glass mounted.Try and make a test print. If the streaks is still printing and you can see the streaks is deffinately from the drum you can strip the drum, clean the corrona wire and grit, and clean the drum brush.Strip only the drum unit if you sure the lines is caused by the drum.
