How to get my scanner to scan only the photograph

I have a hp psc 750 printer/scanner and I have photo explosion deluxe. I'm trying to scan in old family photos. However, when it scans it does scan the picture plus all the other area for a 8/11 sheet of paper? Is there a way to have the two work together and scan only the photo? The way it is, I have to crop the picture and resize. When I scan a picture it scans the photo as well as the white area so I get 8 1/2 x 11 image. Is there a way to make it scan just the photo and not the whole background?

Most software has a preview button first click this.
Then you can see a dotted line rectangle around the area to be scanned.
You can move this rectangle by dragging the edges using the mouse, (hold click and drag)
Then click the scan button

SOURCE: How to get my scanner to scan only the photograph

When you scan the picture, make sure you do a preview of the scanning surface in the scanner software first, then select the region corresponding to the picture only, after that, select "scan" in the scanner software.

My HP PSC 750 all-in-one Inkjet Printer won't scan. The window on the printer/scanner/copie says, "please select destination using "scan to"." I don't remember doing this before. I don't scan often, but I...

caroljust,
The 'scan to' is a message that the scanner is saying ' I do not know where to scan this document to, that is, what program. I suggest you turn it off and turn it on again and it may reset to the default setting, otherwise you have to go into some softwear that came with that psc 750 and work with the softwear and ask it to scan from taht hp softwear from the computer. My hp psc 750 all-in -one printer scanner not working

A friend of mine had a HP printer (Not a PSC 750) that he had simply plugged into his computer and was able to print properly but received the "options not set" message when he tried to scan.

The solution was to install the HP driver package for his printer.

If you are using the default Windows drivers for your printer you may need to install the HP driver package to access all of your printers functions.
