Lumix S3 - video on camera becomes still .jpg when I download it, what can I do?

Took some videos yesterday, when I downloaded them today they are showing up as .jpgs, but are still watchable as videos on the camera. Is there anything I can do to download them as videos?

Well this sounds like you need to install the software that came with the camera and have it search for updated drivers, does not sound like any problem with the camera just a program problem with the pc.

SOURCE: how to play lumix digital camera .mov to my dvd player

Hey! There are a lot of such conversion tools. I am now using this Wondershare DVD Converter Ultimate, which helps me convert various video format to any video/audio format I need(indcluding the format you have mentioned). And it also helps me burn dvd from video. It works well for me. You can also have a free trail of it. Hope that helps.

You need something to play the videos. Try Quicktime...it's a free download from Apple.

No, it can't do that. Try this...use a card reader to download your pics. When it opens, all the pics will be listed and at the far right, you will see the date they were taken. Just select those and drag and drop them to wherever you want.

Manual for Panasonic Lumix-S3 camera in english

You may download a copy of the manual here.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.

Sounds like you're switching the same card between cameras. Rule #1...one card per camera. Format the card in the camera it is to be used in. There is no Rule #2.

even though the card has video files on, this should not prevent you from seeing the still pictuers. Try and open my computer and open the removable drive to view the pictures.
