SOURCE: document jam

I had this totally annoying problem this morning. After looking for any obvious paper jams or small bits of loose paper, I tried several fixes: 1) open front cover, release levers that hold white rollbar in place, roll the bar forward to make sure nothing is stuck behind it, snap levers back in place; DID NOT fix the problem; 2) open top cover, remove print cartridge, look for jammed paper bits, close cover; DID NOT fix the problem; 3) unplug the machine, wait a few minutes, turn machine back on; DID NOT fix the problem. I even unplugged the machine, opened ALL the covers, turned the machine upside down and shake it to see if any paper clips, staples, or other objects have fallen inside the machine; DID NOT fix the problem. FINALLY, I pulled the paper feed tray forward, reached down to the feed rollers, twisted them a few turns, put paper back in the machine, and the "paper jam" message disappeared! This may not work for everyone, but it worked for me today, so I hope this helps someone out there to have a better day.

SOURCE: Paper jam

The various parts that open up to allow access are monitored by a micro switch. Switch the machine off and open all the access points locate the switch and make sure it is freely working and the connections are all in place. Then come back

SOURCE: Continual paper jams in rear of printer

If the paper is jamming at the exit rollers, you will be need to clean the rubber on the rollers. It gets shiny and does not grip the paper to take it away.

Try making prints or copies with the rear door open. If it does not jam your fixing unit (hot area) is functioning properly. With the rear door closed try again making copies or prints. If it jams it's most likely the exit rollers acting up.

1. I've seen the exit sensor break on these units and sometimes the drive gears wear and do not feed properly.
2. If using after market toner or refills this may also coat the exit roller with a film which prevents the exit rollers from feeding parper out by reducing the friction of theses rollers. Clean with fantastic untill cloth does not turn black.

4TH LIGHT FROM THE TOP KEEPS COMING ON LEXMARK E232

What this light sequence means that the printer has a paper jam.

When a paper jam occurs, the printer stops and the operator panel's Paper Jam light and Continue button lights come on. Press and release Continue twice quickly to display the specific secondary error paper jam light sequence.

How to clear Paper Jam

?· Press Continue button twice quickly to see the secondary error code.

To get the secondary error codes

?· When the Error light (!) and Continue button lights are both on, a secondary error has occurred.

?· When the Paper Jam light (4th light) and Continue button lights are both on, a paper jam secondary error has occurred.

?· Press and release Continue button twice quickly to display the secondary error code light sequence.

Press Continue button to resume printing once all the jammed pages are cleared from the paper path.

We recommend that you clear the entire paper path when a paper jam occurs.

To clear a paper jam:

1 If you are feeding paper from a tray, remove the tray, and then remove any jams.

2 Open the front cover and remove the print cartridge assembly.

NOTE: Do not leave the print cartridge assembly exposed to direct light for an Extended period of time. Extended light exposure can cause print quality problems.

3 Remove any jams in the area behind the print cartridge assembly.

4 Lift the flap at the front of the printer and remove any jams beneath the flap.

5 Open the rear exit and remove any jams.

6 After you have cleared the jams, reinstall the print cartridge assembly, make sure all printer covers and trays are closed, and then press Continue button to resume printing.

NOTE: The printer reprints the pages that caused the paper jam.

What does the "heart beat" symbol/light mean?

I assume you mean the symbol that has a pair blackened circles and then a pulse up and then down below the starting line before returning to the starting line.

That is the paper jam symbol. If the continue light is on (steady) and the paper jam light is on, then you have a paper jam. Press Continue twice to see any secondary error message (this will show where the problem is).

See the manual for the list of the lights that show where the jam is occurring. Different groups of lights will be lit. The manual is available as a PDF at the bottom of this page: http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=EN&page=product&userlocale=EN . An example: if the Continue, Toner Low and Paper Jam are all on, then the jam is in the fuser area under the print cartridge assembly. For a paper jam, even a small corner of torn paper could be in the mechanism.

In all cases, you should check the entire paper path. When you pull out any paper, grip it so that you can gently pull the sheet straight out. Remove all paper from the output tray. Then remove the paper tray if you are using it. Pull any paper from this area. Press down on the green duplex flap and remove any paper from there Reinsert the paper tray. Open the front door of the printer and remove the print cartridge assembly. Lift the green flap and remove any paper from the area. NOTE: the fuser and the fuser area may be hot. Open the rear exit door and remove any paper from that area. Use a flashlight to check for small pieces of paper that may be stuck. Once all the paper is removed, reinstall the print cartridge assembly and close all the doors. Press Continue to reset the printer.

The page that jammed may be reprinted.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(please note that frequent paper jams may be a sign of excess humidity in the paper. Put less paper in the tray at each refill and keep the remaining paper in a dry location. If the paper jam light is coming on when no paper jam is present, one or more of the paper jam sensors may be bad. Contact Lexmark for more information.)

Paper jam. we removed the major portion of it. bit of paper is inside. we can't find out that. display shows 13.20.00. we removed front and back except toner catridge. what we have to do.

Or i cut and paste text, but you should view pictures. If you cannot get to it from link. Try typing "Paper jams alternating between front and back door" It should be first link from HP about a 3550.

HP Color LaserJet 3500, 3550, and 3700 Series Printers - Paper Jams Alternating Between Front and Back Door Issue Description Customers may see paper jams error messages with no paper seen in the paper path. The message will alternate between check the front door and the back door. Workaround The release lever engagement tabs on the rear door can be bumped into the in-correct position. The purpose for this tab is to re-engage the fuser release levers as the rear door is closed. When one or both of these are left in the in-correct position the printer goes into a cycle of alternating between a "Jam in the Front Door" message and "Jam in the Rear Door" message. There is no paper present in the paper path when this happens. When a customer gets the "Jam in the Front Door" message and opens the front door, no paper is found. After the customer closes the front door, they get the "Jam in the Rear Door" message. When they open the rear door, find not paper (even pull out the fuser), and close the rear door, they get the "Jam in the Front Door" message. This cycle will continue

Placing both engagement tabs in the "Correct" position solves the problem and allows the print job to continue.for as long as the customer is willing to keep checking.
