The SIM card in a i730 slides out of the side of the phone. Remove the battery and simply slide the card to the right toward the push to talk button.
Once removed you will see a diagram that shows how to insert the new one. You need to insert it with the angled edge down to the left.
If it is a new SIM card you will need a SIM copier to copy the contacts from one card to another (if you want to)
You will also need to activate the new card before using it. Go to a Nextel store for this or try customer service.

With the Motorola i730 there is either 2 options on it,
it may be a Push and it pops up to insert the sim.
the area for the SIM card is in the middle of the phone, after removing the Battery, It should be either like you said, a metal plate, or a metal holder that extends. Let me know how it goes,
Thanks

I have a t-mobile simcard and is asking me for a lock code

If you are attempting to use a T-Mobile SIM card in a Nextel Motorola i730 mobile phone it will NOT work.

T-Mobile phones operate off of a GSM network. The Nextel i730 operates on an iDEN network.

The phone you have can never be compatible with the network you are trying to use it on.

How do i find my sim card number?

To find the SIM ID * sim card number *
What you can do is one of the following things,
1. Enter the following in a fast succession ** which means really fast -lol- ** :
#, * , Menu , Right Arrow ( right arrow = ----> )
if you don't know which is the MENU, it may look like 2 small phone books, underneath the left arrow,
2. Take the SIM card out, by removing the battery, and the SIM ID # normally starts off in " 0008 "
Let me know how it goes,
Thanks

UNLOCK CODE for Nextel i730

What you need to do, is when you insert the SIM card into the different i730, basically, make sure that the GOLD plate is facing down, THIS IS VERY SENSITIVE, care with caution. Pop it in, and it should work, FYI call customer care, basically to have your MSN *serial Number* updated, due to having different MSN's could cause issues. Let me know how it goes,
Thanks
