My whirlpool GEX9868JQ will not start. It just makes a clicking noise

Needs agitator dogs in agitator.

If this is just clicking then the agitator bearings stuck or something is jamming it.

is it a noise like nails on a chalk board if so your heating element could be hitting the back side of your dryer and making a clicking noise or scratching sound does it heat and dry the same

check the compressor for operation adn check the fan in the back of unit to make sure it is running...whirlpool units are notorious for compressor relay failure normally they click in and out every few minutes... if it is a knocking noise and continuous make sure compressor is not trying to start and sitting there shaking... normally it will stop after a few minutes and then start again....

A common problem with noises from washing machines has been the under wire that may come out of small clothes. In the washer they can get stuck in one of the inner basket holes and make a scrapping noise, they can actually make there way into the pump and jam the pump, or make a terrible noise when the pump is running.
