I'm in the process of reformatting and installing XP. Got that going, and now am trying to reinstall my HP 7150 printer. I have the install disk, and I also tried to download the driver -- but nothing seems to be recognizing the printer...any ideas?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I did try rebooting, but no luck. I've since discovered that it appears that my USB ports aren't working since installing XP SP2. I went to the Microsoft site to download a fix, but get "error on page" when trying to accept the agreement. <<http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp...>>

Have you rebooted your computer with the printer attached?
Check under printers to see if the HP 7150 is online and the default printer.

    Resolving USB controller installation issues

In Device Manager, USB game controllers are listed under Human Interface devices (in Devices by type view). If the controller does not appear in Device Manager, then USB may not be enabled in BIOS or EFI. When you are prompted as you start your computer, enter BIOS or EFI setup, and enable USB.
If USB is enabled in BIOS or EFI but the USB host controller does not appear in Device Manager (under Universal Serial Bus controllers), or a yellow warning icon appears next to the host controller name, then the version of BIOS or EFI may be outdated. Contact the maker or vendor for your computer and obtain the current version of BIOS or EFI.
If the controller appears in Device Manager, right-click the controller name and then click Properties. Problems and suggested actions are displayed under Device status. For more information, click Related Topics.
USB ports have a separate entry in Device Manager. To check the device status, click Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click USB Root Hub, and then click Properties. If you do not see USB Root Hub, you might not have a USB port installed on your computer.
You can also use the Hardware troubleshooter to diagnose and solve problems with hardware devices such as USB game controllers. Start the Hardware troubleshooter.

If you need set the IDE controller to AHCI you need Intel AHCI controller driver for your system, you can see it during installation process to press F6, you must use floppy diskette and put the driver onto it.
Another way to install AHCI driver is Integrate the driver into Windows Installation directory..See here for more details..

Hp Pavilion 6701 desktop with ME. Installed Xubuntu OS and removed ME. Want to reinstall ME but recovery disc won't work.

Hard disk needs to be reformatted--start machine and press correct key when "setup" appears in first dialog. Remove hard drive in first screen, then reinstall. Restart computer, should now say: "operating system not found". You need original Microsoft OS disk to reformat drive and reinstall ME. All previous information on hard disk will be lost with this procedure. Recovery disk is used with original OS before Ubuntu. If you don't have original MS disk, suggest going to XP.

Can't re-load hp photosmart 7150 on windows xp. Gets to the point where the installshield should come up, lingers awhile, and then says check printer power and usb connection. The computer has already...

1.It could be the USB cable. Try a new cable.
2. Could be USB port, use another if available
3. You should be able to install the software without the printer connected.
4. Uninstall all hp printer software, and restart computer.
5. Delete any instances of the printer from the printer/fax located in control panel

How can I reformat my A20m IBM Thinkpad..

Doing a Format on your PC Should Be A Last Resort! Reformatting your Windows computer is usually the absolute last resort and is often done unnecessarily. Before you go through the process of doing a reformat of your hard drive please take a few moments to read through the rest of our website. If you are reformatting to fix problems with your Windows computer it's possible that by using some of the tips on our site, or by downloading or purchasing some of the tools or products that we link to, you might be able to avoid the need to reformat your computer. Because doing a complete reformat of your computer will erase the contents of the hard drive and require you to reinstall all software, reformatting is usually a last resort. Some Computer Manufacturers Make Reformatting Easy Many name-brand PC manufacturers include a restore-disk which makes it easy to reformat your PC and return it to the state it was in on the day you purchased it. Some manufactures supply only a standard Microsoft Windows CD, and some (usually lower-end PC manufacturers) supply neither! If your PC did not come with a restore or reformatting CD, then you will need to take extra steps to format your hard drive and get Windows re-installed. Back Up Your Files Before You Reformat your Windows PC!Because the reformat or restore process erases everything on your computer, it is critical to have a backup of any important files on your computer. You will also need your original software install disks to reinstall any software you have purchased.

Things to do before you reformat your PC hard drive
  • Write down or print out all notes and internet pages because once the format process begins, you will no longer have access to them (or anything else in the PC)
  • As already stated, BACKUP all important files and data! When you reformat your computer everything will be erased!
  • Make sure you have all the CDs and other software. All programs will have to be reinstalled after you format the hard drive. Don't forget about software that came with hardware such as printers, scanners, etc.
  • Write down the brand and information for all the hardware on your computer. Look in the Device Manager and make note of the brand and model of network adaptors, video cards, sound cards, printers, modems, and displays. After reformatting you might need this information to reinstall drivers.
