First, follow the instructions listed in the link below to find if the issue is with the Hardware or not :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00372748&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
However, to remove and reseat the Memory Modules, you should find the required instructions from the Manual which is available throug the link below :
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295898.pdf
Find the required instructions to remove and reseat the Memory Modules in your Notebook from page number 54 (62 of 176) in the Manual.
Unfortunately, if the issue persists and if the Indicators, I recommend you to try connecting a Desktop Monitor to the VGA Port of the Notebook when the Notebook is powerd on and press hold the FN key (Located on the left bottom of the keyboard near ctrl key) and press the F4 key once to toggle the display on the Desktop Monitor.
If there is no display either on the LCD of the Notebook or the Desktop Monitor connected, the issue can be with the Motherboard of the Notebook.
However, if there is display on the Desktop Monitor connected, the issue can be with the LCD of the notebook or the Connector on the Motherboard.
In this situation, you can try installing the latest BIOS Update specific for the Model Number of your Notebook.
However, I recommend you to try checking the Warranty Status of the Notebook by entering the Product Number and Serial Number of the Notebook in the link below :
http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/ewarranty/warrantyInput.do
You can find them both printed on a white sticker pasted at the Bottom of the Notebook indicated by S/n and P/n .
If the Notebook is found to be In Warraty, you can contact HP Support and get the Notebook repaired.
However, if the Notebook is out of Warranty, you need to visit any nearest HP Authorized Service Centers and get the notebook examined and repaired.
Hope this helps....

There is an .exe file on the HP site. I'll admit it was pretty well-hidden on their site. Here's the link to the EEPROM programming tool:

SOURCE: screen problem Hp dv1000
The main two causes for this, are the inverter, which supplies the screen with the proper amount of power in order to function correctly, or the screen. If the inverter isn't puting out enough power it will cause the screen to darken or black out completely. Start by checking the screen connections. If all the connection are properly seated, the it's either the inverter or the screen it self.
