Screen dark/ mouse not working

TThe mouse stopped working on my hp pavillion laptop, and the screen went dark
There's a little pic of a computer-looking-thing on the mouse pad that turned orange for the first time since i've had the computer
What can i do to fix it?

I have a machine with a similar problem. It looks like it could be something to do with the lid switch being broken. Does not sound easy to fix.

Nelia, JUst fixed one with the same problem. The lid switch is faulty - I will take a technician about 20 mins to disconnect the switch and leave it disconnected.

sounds like the black screen of death

a lot of dv hp laptop have this problem the gpu has to reflowed are your keys also blinking. if they are count the number of blinks it will point to problem

Hp pavillion g series, Question where is the lid or screen switch ?I took computer apart to replace lid worked for two months now dark.I think its hibernating

Lid switches went from a mechanical switch, to a magnetic switch.

Ihave an hp pavillion laptop where the screen went black and need a solution to fix

First hook a spare monitor to the video output jack usually on the back, if picture comes up! it indicates a bad inverter board, or the backlight has stopped working, if the spare shows the same problem, it means the video graphics card is defective and normally built into the motherboard.

If there is an image on the screen, but it is incredibly dark and washed out, then your laptop's back light is out. This is an expensive repair that often exceeds $300. Solutions can be having it repaired, getting it replaced, or using an external monitor with the laptop.

Try this (a shot in the dark, but will help eliminate some possibilities): unplug the AC power cord, remove the battery, press power for a few seconds. Replug the power cord and try. If it works, put the battery in and try again.

Screen dim to black

This will be a problem with either the screen inverter or screen backlight. You will need to take it to a shop for diagnosis, in order to find out which one it is. If it turns out to be the backlight, then the entire screen will have to be replaced. They are considered a sealed unit, and the backlight can't be changed out.
