Audiovox d1708 portable dvd player: DVD spins and says loading...

My trusty DVD player is working. When I put in a DVD it spins and the screen says loading, but that's all it does. It doesn't play the movie, just keeps "loading." Is this something that I can fix or do I need a new player?

Thank you for any assistance.

Someone just gave me one of these that was doing that. I noticed the armature that moves the laser head wouldn't move all the way in. The laser worked, the center drive spun etc. So I took off all but the battery latch screws and opened it.....and found a tiny sliver of what looked like black plastic or crud that had wedged into one of the gear teeth that moves the head. I removed that, that freed the lens armature, I closed it up, turned it on and it worked! Not saying it would be the only reason for this malfunction, but it fixed this one!

If it does it with all discs then the player is dying. If it is just the one disc I would say it is a bad disc. You can also see if there is dirt or grease or fingerprints on the laser pickup lens.

Phillips Portable dvd PET824 won't play dvd; no picture or sound

you can try moving the laser lens that reads the dvd's just don't touch the lens just move that little square it's attached. all you have to do is move it back or forth just a little and leave it and try the cd and if that don't work just keep on moving it around until it reads. it'll work i had that problem on my dvd player and my playstation.

Not playing the dvd

NO DO NOT WATSE YOUR MONEY PLEASE READ THIS! Ok I have owned the same portable dvd player for a few years now , and every know and then it acts up and wont play anything only to say " NO DISC " . What I have found over time is to fix this , turn it upside down , and slam it with your fist , enough for a sligh punch . This may sound really stupid but trust me it works great , just dont slam it so hard that you break , and this has worked for me numerous times , good luck :)

No longer loading dvds

You may have a bad laser. First, make sure the laser assy. travels back and forth easily, then make sure the table the disc sits on spins freely. If it still isn't reading, load a disc and immediatly flip it over to it's top and see if it works. Working or not, still a bad laser.

Cannot read disc

prob. the laser i have an accurian(radio shack) portable dvd with the same issue. spin motor fires fine but says no disk. just because the laser "lights up" dosent necessarily mean the read section works also. if anyone has a solution to locate a suitable laser please post here as i have a ton of lasers from various drives etc.

No power

Apparently Audiovox does not support the pvs33116 dvd player. Nor does the manufacturer Alco. Support and accessories can be found at http://www.1800customersupport.com/products.aspx?type=pad&view=1385&p=75&sc=5

Thus one can purchase a $15.00 ac adapter, $20.00 battery, or a $10 dc adapter for a dvd player that's worth about 10 cents.

Look for dust, dirt or foreign object on the laser lens under where you put the disc in. Maybe blow some clean air on it.
