Take a hair dryer on low setting and try to blow warm air into the vcr to warm it up until light goes out

That is 'dew' as in wet. Do you have it in a warm, dry location? This time of year they can attract condensation if the VCR is in a cold place.

Tape won't play

Hi hwgs,

The "DEW" warning appears if a VHS player or recorder has built up humidity. This, much like dew found on the grass on a cool morning, is the result of condensation building up, ususally after a temperature change. Once the moisture has evaporated the unit should work properly.

Be sure to keep your TV away from sources of humidity, such as a window or a bathroom/kitchen door. Also, make sure it is in a climate-controlled room away from drafts so the temperature does not change rapidly.

Thank you,
Jason,

Hello mountain8,

It sounds like the dew sensor might be bad and giving a false reading. If you have the ability to you could disconnect the dew sensor to see if it is the problem.

I hope this helps,

Thank you

It's sounds like the vcr's tape mechinisum is malfunctioning to me. Try unpluging it for a while. It will correct itself. Or it might have
dew sensors if the room is too cold the vcr wont work until the dew it gone off the heads. If it don't have dew sensors
and plays the tape with dew on it might eat the tape.
also if a timer is overlaping or is set to come on right now it might do this.

VCR eating tapes

Is the vcr in a cold room? the heads might have dew on them
or need cleaned. If it keeps doing it you probly wouldn't want to fix it at a shop. you can buy new vcr's with remote at walmart now for $25-$30 I think. Hey you can try the old treatment
that i always do. Try unplugging the vcr from the electrical
outlet for a hour or maybe even longer sometimes that will resit
everything in it and it will work right.

Sansui TV/VCR 13" color

there is what is called a "dew sensor" in a lot of vcr's that keep you from playing a tape if it senses moisture in the unit because a tape will stick to the video head and get all bunged up. sometimes they go bad and will keep you from playing a tape even when there is no moisture present. if your are electronically inclined you can take the back off and locate the dew sensor, then disconnect it. the constant whirring noise is the unit's way of trying to dry off the video head cylinder. the dew sensor, which is usally located behind the video head, is a dark grey thing about a half inch by half inch and has two wires going to it.

"DEW" is on screen and VCR not working

When the DEW appears leave tv on for several hrs at room temp. The heat from the picture tube will help remove the moisture.

HELP, my panasonic keeps shutting off. Dew? condensation?

Put it in a very dry place, and let it sit for a few days. How is it getting either dew or condensation? Once dried out, keep it in an airtight plastic bag.
