Thin black line down center of computer monitor

Have a Dell monitor and computer (don't have details at the moment). Other than annoying black line, screen looks fine and no other problems apparent. This happened a couple of months ago and then problem disappeared.
thanks.

SOURCE: line across screen

I have the same problem with my 42 in. The line started to show up randomly about 1 month after i got my tv. The line isn't a line of dead pixels since when i change the aspect ratio or the tv the line moves up or down. I called sharp about the problem and they said it had something to do with my computer but i don't think that can explain why the problem shows up on all my tv inputs.

SOURCE: I have a sharp aquos 52" with a thin vertical red line in center

If you have a thin line running down the screen, you may be looking at a service issue right off of the bat. Here is a few things I want you to try before calling sharp, 1. Reset the unit from the setup menu
2. Unplug the unit for 2 minutes then plug back in. If that does not work. Take digital pictures of the line and call sharp immediately. Make sure you tell the rep you want to sign up for the aquos advantage program that they have(extends your warranty 3 months free of charge!) because that will get you priority service on with your issue. If they cant resolve that line ,9 times out of 10 they will replace the unit. hope this helps you

SOURCE: I have thin red line in the center of screen fron

Hi,
If the line is present on all inputs, it is most likely a bad panel (screen). The screens are either not available or cost more than a new TV.
Not good news I know but at least you can save the $100 estimate fee.
Best of luck

A thin vertical line(Green) has appeared on the screen

Hi peterbb24 - Welcome to FixYa!

It seems like you're annoyed by this vertical line running across your screen. At first, it may seem nothing and wont bother you much but as an expert (and based in my own experience), I have to give my fair recommendation to test your screen while in BIOS mode and see if the problem continues.

How to go to BIOS?
1. Turn OFF your computer
2. Turn it back on and hit "DEL" key repeatedly until you see a screen like below :

mercadoarvin_7.jpg

Stay on this screen for several minutes (1 hour recommended) and see if you'll still see that annoying line. If the problem continues, then it's high time to send this monitor to the authorized repair center to get it fixed. Otherwise, the problem could be software-related which requires you to backup important files and re-install your operating system. Please refer to your system's user manual for the appropriate guide in doing operating system re install.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a thin black line across my screen half way down

You don't say whether it is a LCD monitor or a CRT one.

CRT Trinitron tubes have two thin black lines, one at about 1/3 height, one at about 2/3. This is normal and nothing to be worried about (sometimes one and more rarely both lines can't be seen).

LCD monitors should NOT have any black lines at all, and if they do it's probably a driver latch circuit gone bad -- and there's not much that can be done in practice, except replace the monitor.

My Dell E172FPb flickers & has straight, thin

#1 Connect monitor to another system, make sure the issue is the Monitor, not the video card.
#2 Try a different VGA or DVI cable
If the issue is isolated to the monitor, it is cheaper to replace it than to repair it (Refurb 17" LCDs are $69 on Dell's Outlet

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

Is there an easy way to open this monitor?

-Flip the LCD face down and remove the screws that hold the base in place. -looking at the top edge of the LCD monitor you should see a small notch on each end between the front bezel and the back cover. -Using a plastic tool or a flat blade screw driver insert the tip and gently pop the case open. -Work your way around the edge of the case. -Once the LCD monitor is open unplug the control panel connector from the right side and remove the front bezel.
