The best way is to get a data cable and connect directly to the laptop. Your laptop should recognize the router and prompt you to make this your wireless device. Once through the setup you can unplug the cable and you should be set for wireless again. The one other thing to check is make sure the wireless button on the computer is on. Mine is on the front but I have seen them all over. Check the latter first.

SOURCE: Wireless and internet

1. Make sure that wireless settings are properly synchronized.
>> ssid/security key.
2. Check your computers wireless connection status
> Make sure that it is set to "obtain ip address automatically)
3. If still not working if computer is set to obtain ip automatically, try assigning static ip on wireless pc
> You need to know your router's ip address and dns
4. Disable firewall on wireless pc.

SOURCE: Problem between my Qwest actiontec modem and D-link router

You need to sign into the dlink router and check the status tab, to make sure that the router has picked up the modems IP address. it sound like it hasn't, and is just assigning lan IPs to the client machines, butd oes not have a valid WAN IP to the internet.

If it hasnt got a wan ip, you want to do a hard boot on the router .unplug the router ONLY for 30 sec, and power back up the router only ...not the modem this should allow the router to find the modem IP

SOURCE: Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

SOURCE: router randomly stops sending out wireless signal

You may be getting interference from other routers in your area.
Check to see what channels the other routers are broadcasting in your area, change it to a channel that is not being used.
The location of the router could affect the signal strength, move the router away from concrete reinforced walls etc, and or move the router to a higher position in a clear space.

try reseting the router (pressing the button the size of the tip of a pen)
Do not try this if this is the main internet router (unless you dont have any choice).
It might need to be reset from Server side (your phone/internett company).
There might be some setings lost and you need to set a new password (the old one back)

Hi, the gateway is your cable modem, so if that 3rd laptop can't find the gateway, it can't make its way out onto the Internet. Do you know if you're using DHCP (to automatically assign IP addresses to your computers)? If you're not sure, you probably are, and all you'd need to do to fix the problem is to open a command prompt on that laptop with the problem (in Windows XP, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt; in Windows Vista or 7 you can just type "command prompt" into the search bar) and at the command line, type "ipconfig /release" and then, once the command completes (which might take a minute) type "ipconfig /renew". This will force your laptop to re-acquire its IP address, complete with subnet mask and default gateway address.
An alternate way to do it is to right click on your wireless icon in the system notification area of the taskbar and select Repair. It will accomplish the same thing as above, but Windows will do the legwork for you.
Hopefully that should fix your problem. If not, leave a comment and we'll go from there. Good luck!

You would connect a laptop from Canada the same way as one from the US. You want to make sure the wireless card is turned on and check for wireless networks. Once you have found your network select it make sure you type the password correctly.

I can't get internet connection even though it says my connection strength is "excellent."

The netbook is working fine. The WiFi connection or SPID may require you to login as in it is a protected signal. The "Excellent" means that you are receiving an excellent signal from the router. What you want is internet access which is upstream of that. Try a different SPID or connection.

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

Can no longer pick up router signal

Does the wireless light still lit on the router? You can try changing the channel on the router (1 6 or 11) ans moving the antenna. If those things did not work upgrade the firmware of the router and reset to factory default. Do not forget to save the configuration file before you reset to factory default.

How do i hook up a westell router to a moterola comcast modem?

Okay, well something is obviously wrong.
This is how it should be connected. Internet to modem, then with an Ethernet cable, connect the modem to the router (jack1) then with another Ethernet cable, connect the router (jack2) to the computer.
If you are still having problems, then contact your company to see if they could walk you through it, or if they needed to set things up.
Also, where are you connecting your laptop from? Is it very far from the router? Perhaps your router's signal strength isn't great enough? (This would mean getting a new, more powerful router.)
