Blown fuse in set

Dear sir: I have a 42" Mganavox LCD that is just 3 years of age. It had been trouble free up to one afternoon, and "POP" and the whole unit went down. Being out of warranty, and a bit of a handyman, I pulled the back panel and circiuot card and discovered a blown fuse: 250V5A slow blow...I replaced it and reconnected the power...and again it popped the fuse! I have a novice tech that looked it over and checked the capacitors for swelling. they are fine. he is not sure what additional damage there might be without digging more. Is this unit worth taking to a shop and paying the repair bill? It retailed new at near $1400. I can replace it for under $900 same size, or downsize until prices drop even more. Thankyou for your time

Seems to be a fualty circut board or some of the circut components gone bad. they can replace or repair them at least untill the tv,s go down a bit more in price i would get the estimates then decide. if it was the screen it self cracked or broken then i would tell you to go for a new tv.

Sharp Aquos has distorted colors

The set should be transported upright but that rarely causes these issues-----suspect either main signal board or also possible is the power supply (for voltages changing when set is on).

Also if set was opened look for all plugs to be seated--ones with cloth tape where they connect look at first.

failing that based on age of set consider having a technician look at it or if over 3 years consider a new set with extended warranty--70% of this type of set in our shop (100 plus sets at any time in for repair) are less than 3 years old.

Lg 42 in lcd tv turns it self off

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.5_14_2012_1_10_46_pm.jpg

I have a LG 42pc3dv with no picture just sound. I have this tv over 3 years, other people experienced the same problem, some of them mentioned the Y sustain board. Is this an easy fix.

Check the fuse on the Z-sustain module. The module all the way to the right (looking from the back) If blown (and before the set went out there was a loud pop) you need to change the IC on the Z-sustain part number STK 795-820 or 821 and the fuse. If you don't want to bother unsoldering and soldering back this part and you know the fuse is blown then replace the Z-sustain module. Do a google, ebay, or shopjimmy.com search with the model number for price and availibility.

I have a 26 inch vizio tv. have had it for only 3 years. it will not turn on. why? can this be fixed.

Wiring....Circuits.....Old age..... Blown Fuse.... These are all reasons for a TV to stop turning on..... As to fixing it, you can buy new fuses and tech support could probably fix it for you....

Good afternoon, my Mitsubishi model 42413 turns on, then immediately back off back again. After testing with the menu and device buttons, I get a flashing 2 - 2 code indicating a fuse is blown. I opened...

2,2 means one of the pico fuses (see attached photo) that protects the convergence circuit is blown---This set uses 2 of the STK-394-250 convergence chips---you need to locate and replace the fuse and the chips---do not just replace fuse---it went for a reason, if just fuse replaced it will blow again and likely do other damage.

If this or the photo helped, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

I have a 42 inch toshiba lcd tv its bran new led blinks 3 times then a pause, over and over again can you help me trouble shoot this problem?

3 Blinks indicates that there is fault with the power supply of the set. Since the set is brand new, run back to the store and get a replacement. Also purchase the extended warranty(Think of the 250$ that you are gonna spend on this repair if the same thing happens right after your 1 year warranty expires?)

Hope this helps,
Sai.

No Picture on PDP4294

Normally the sets have seperate power supplies for the input/main logic board and the HV which drives the panal (could be 2 parts on the same board). It sounds like you have a problem with the power board that drives the panal and HV. Check to see if any fuses are blown, if the fuse is blown, you can try replacing it, but if it continues to pop, then the main fets that drive the HV are shot and will need to be replaced.
