There is nothing to "hook up". The remote control works independently of the TV. Try entering 0506, 0311, 0612, 0002, 0428, 0802, 0412, or 0619 to get response from your Sanyo TV.

To fix this, you need to do something called degaussing. You should keep magnets away from the screen in the future, because they cause this problem.
The first thing to try is to turn it on and off, making sure that all magnets and speakers (which have magnets in them) are kept far away from it. This will activate the monitor's auto-degausser if it has one. If this does not help, this guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Degauss-a-Computer-Monitor gives a couple solutions, including using a soldering gun (not a soldering iron), illustrated in the video below:
With a powerdrill:

Or investing about 60 bucks in a degaussing coil like this which is a guaranteed fix:
One other trick that might work is to take an old CRT monitor ("fat-screen" rather than "flat-screen"), hold it up to the tv screen to screen, and turn it on and off to have the monitor use its own degausser. The monitor may have a button to activate degaussing, or it may be in the menu you can bring up with the buttons on the bottom of the screen.
If you don't want to deal with any of this, a tv repair shop will degauss your tv for you quickly.

It sounds like you have a problem with your 'main board'. It's board where all the outside connections come in or as we used to call it the 'tuner board'

Try spraying tuner cleaner down beside the button. Be sure you get a good turner cleaner like Chemtronics. If that doesn't work you will have to disassemble the remote and check the membrane under the buttons. If the button is used a lot it may be torn or wore out.

"Right now, your TV is in " Protection Mode". A damaged part has occurred inside on one of the power supply boards. The red flashing light is a trouble code for a tech to trace the trouble circuit path."

Someone comfortable with a printed circuit board and a soldering iron might ask Phillips what the Code is saying and replace that capacitor.

2 people suggested removing the back cover and just visually checking for leaking capacitors and replacing them.

I am assuming from your question that your 42 inch is no longer in Warranty

Did you run the windows 7 upgrade advisor before upgrading to win 7?
I am asking you this because in most of the cases when the drivers are not available in win 7 then that wizard helps you knowing it. You might have to reinstall the drivers once again because the drivers are not installed automatically in win 7 installation, they need to be installed explicitly.
