I Have the same problem, the set is about three years old. I was watching it and suddenly the picture went out; the sound works fine but no picture or menu viewing capability. I tried unplugging it and waiting then turning it back on, still no picture, just sound.

I just had the set checked by a repairman and he said I need a new power board. He also said that he is having some difficulty locating a new power board for this set? Something to the effect that Samsung actually manufactured the set and that they also had taken over Akai.

Normally the sets have seperate power supplies for the input/main logic board and the HV which drives the panal (could be 2 parts on the same board). It sounds like you have a problem with the power board that drives the panal and HV. Check to see if any fuses are blown, if the fuse is blown, you can try replacing it, but if it continues to pop, then the main fets that drive the HV are shot and will need to be replaced.

Picture-in-picture won't go away

Does this happen with TV signal only, or with other inputs as well?

Screen went out

This sounds to me that you blew a fuse, or something wrong with the mainboard. im no expert, by any means...Have you taken up the courage to open it up? there is about 40 screws, just draw diagrams and such where it goes.. also, there are 2 small screws by where the computer and dhmi digit port are (like your comp at home) AND also the nut on the coax. after this, it's home freee. power is right on top middle. check out my other post for pics of it...Hope this helps!

No picture ; no sound

the red blinking light usually has a pattern that gives you a code to the possible problem.
Maybe you have a bad power supply board. You have to open the panel and do a few tests on the power supply's outputs to be sure.
It produces a variety of voltages for different parts of the tv ie. the plasma display panel and the audio system. The components supplying power to the audio system may have failed a year ago and recently the pdp.

plasma tv's are expensive to repair, most of the time you can get a better tv for the same price. You can reduce that cost by learning and troubleshooting it yourself.

Akai PDP4294 - Snowy, pink & green picture

It is most likely a problem with the tuner, I would contact the place you purchased it or your nearest repair shop.
