Check for leaks on the printer cartridge, especially if it has been refilled. a lot of refillers use injection syringes to refill, which may cause small holes, which, in effect leaks ink, when the cartridge runs over the track.
Blotches may be due to overfilling, spillage is only due to leaks/incorrect ink consistency. if the ink is not according to specs listed by the printer manufacturer, the ink may actually be thinner in consistency, and the cartridge hole to exude the ink may be too wide, resulting in the spill.
*** with the other solution I would suggest it is the ink cartridge (specifically the head on the cartridge), this will also happen if you try to refill the ink using the wrong ink.
If the ink coming out is a lot of ink, I would not bother trying to clean it out by printing a few pages, it will only continue to flow.
The best solution would be to go buy a new cartridge and throw away the defective one.
First of all I will assume you are using new OEM cartridges. 2nd it is not likely to have the ink randomly spraying or leaking on to the page. I think it may smear the letters that you typed over the page but it's not likely to have a big blot. If it is a smear, then it is most likely the wiper blade on the printer that has some dried up or even excess wet ink on it. Clean that and your problem is solved. If you are using a remanufactured cartridge, you should ask for your money back as it should not leak. If you refilled the cartridge and you have this problem, remove some ink. It might be overfilled that's why it leaked.
What printer is it and is it using ink/cartridge? Try taking out the ink and check to see if its leaking or anything like that. Clean the printer and print a couple of pages to see if the problem is resolved. you may also need to replace the ink/cartridge. good luck.

- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.

The print heads don't appreciate being out of ink so the Brother printer has sensors to prevent that but the tape defeated that prevention. Maybe more cleanings or maybe a cartridge with printhead cleaning solution will help. Otherwise, I fear a new printer.
SOURCE: My CLP-350 Samsung printer only prints black ink
Here is my solution, hope it will solve your problem.
From your post, I believe your CLP-350N printer has enough black toner. The black cartridge is on the far right side of the printer, so the black toner is harder to go to left side of the roller than right side. Everytime we start the printer, it will move some toner of each color to the roller before it shows ready to print.
Because we always use B&W printing when we start the printer, but less Color printing. The result is there are always enough toner on the 3 color rollers, but the black toner is lean on the black roller. When this gets worse, the left side of the black roller may hardly get any toner at all -- so it only print black on the right side fo paper.
Step by step solution
(CAUTION: Never loss balance while tilting printer! You may drop and damage your printer! Hold the printer firmly all the time! Ask someone to help you if needed!)
Here, front of the printer is where you can access the cartridge, back of the printer is where you connect the power cord and USB cable, left is your left, right is your right.
1.Lift the front to keep the printer tilt to its back at about 45 degree
2.Power on printer while it's tilted back, wait untill green light is on
3.Open the front door, red light will be on, then close the door, printer will start up again, wait untill green light is on
4.Repeat step 3 once again, then put the printer back to level position
5.Lift the right to keep the printer tilt to its left at about 45 degree
6.Open the front door, red light will be on, then close the door, printer will start up again, wait untill green light is on
7.Repeat step 6 once again, then put the printer back to level position
8.Print some test page to see if there is any improvement of black print quality.(Hold the printer button for 3-5 seconds, it will print the test page.)
You may try several times and print several pages each time before you finally cure the problem.
Good luck! And do it safely!
