USB ports all seem troublesome

I have an HP Pavilion m9150F and I have to cold boot to have the USB ports recognized to use a flash drive or my external hard drive. At times my wireless mouse and keyboard do not work until I shut down the computer.

The system is not very old but very disappointing with this problem. An HP technician spent quite a while accessing my computer and tried to fix the problem but gave us.

I have warranty on the machine and do not want to take it to a local repair person.

Questions - Do you routinely leave your PC on? By that I mean do you shut down the PC daily or use the S3 Suspend/Sleep mode or S4 Hibernate modes? If so, Vista is probably the culprit.

Do you have an HP printer attached/installed? Namely an AiO (All-In-One - Printer Scanner, Copier)

You cannot use wireless keyboard or USB keyboard in setting up the computer BIOS, what you need is a PS2 keyboard, if your motherboard supported USB booting, in Boot section of your BIOS change the Boot Priority to USB Generic Device, after you change the boot priority change the First Boot to Removable Device or USB Generic Device.. and after that save your configuration and restart the computer.. you must put the USB stick first before you configure the BIOS.. REPLACING HP PAVILLION ELITE E210Y HARD DRIVE WITH 2 TB HARDDRIVE CAN i DO THIS?

Yes you can, for hard drives larger than 2TB you will need a 64 bit operational system like Windows 7, XP recognizes hard drives up to 2TB.

How to Reset HP Pavilion Password on Notebook Computer

kathli.jpg

Pavilion BIOS password reset is commonly needed. Today, we talk about HP Pavilion Windows password reset solutions. Our Windows OS users can set up administrator account and encrypt it with password to enter the OS. This actually prevents unauthorized users from operating on your system. While, if we Pavilion PC users forget the encrypted password and can't login Windows, now what to do for HP Pavilion password reset?

Firstly, if there are not important files on our HP Pavilion notebook, we can reinstall system by deleting all data and cleaning system. Most of us may hope opt for other ways to bypass the Pavilion login password.

Secondly, please think that is there still another account for us to enter Pavilion PC. In Windows XP, Vista, there is HP Pavilion default administrator which has blank password. For Windows 7, the built-in administrator account is disable defaulted. Only if we set it as enable, the account can be used at the moment.
Take HP Pavilion Windows XP password reset from Safe Mode as example:
a. Press "F8" when Pavilion laptop starts.
b. At the "Advanced Boot Options" windows, choose "Safe Mode" with arrow key and Enter, then PC enters Safe Mode.
c. Click "Administrator" on the Windows login screen.
Note that if we have set this HP Pavilion administrator password, we need to input the password instead of leaving "Password" field blank.
d. Start - Control Panel - User Accounts.
e. Select the locked account and reset password for the locked account.
f. Restart Pavilion laptop and login with the account newly password reset.

Thirdly, the least troublesome solution on Pavilion password recovery is to opt for password reset program tool. With the program and a CD/DVD/USB disk, we can easily remove the password for locked computer. Take Windows Password Recovery Corporation as example:
Step1. Burn .iso file to a CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive on an accessible PC;
Step2. Set locked computer to boot from CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive;
Step3. Recover forgotten Windows password with the burned CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive.

Certainly that the 3 ways can make sure we reset Pavilion password finally. The Windows Password Recovery Corporation can be used for Windows 7, XP, Vista, and Windows Server 2003, 2008 domain password, etc.

HP Pavilion zv6000: USB ports are inop. USB port on rear of computer works fine. USB port on left/front will power my flash drive, but the light stays on constantly. The flash drive is does NOT show up in...

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.

So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.

Otherwise you can also do the same.

Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.

I hope this will help.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9150f desktop PC. I'm getting ''Boot Path error code BIOHD-5 Failed''.

Could be one of two things: either the BIOS has lost the settings for the hard drive, which is uncommon unless the PC is more than 5 years old or been electrically shocked, or the hard drive is going bad. hard drives usually only last about 3-5 years on average. Western Digital even less.

My laptop does not recognize usb flash drives, while my desktop does. I have an HP Pavilion running windows XP. Are there any drivers to install so these flash drives/mp3 players/camerasmight be...

Some USB flash disks need to draw too much power for use on particular laptops,  as Laptops tend to have USB ports which only have a low current draw,

the only way around this is to buy a "Powered" USB Hub (IE a USB hub with it's own plugtop power supply).

My Portable HDD is exactly the same way, and doesn't work on some laptops for this very reason.

USB

I had a similar problem, with no help from HP support. A USB hard drive would be recognized, and work, but a Sandisk flash drive and a Fujifilm camera would not. All drivers were uninstalled/reinstalled/updated numerous times. HP finally concluded a hardware problem. However, I noticed an updated BIOS on HP's web site to fix "USB problems" with some equipment. I flashed my BIOS with the new version, and USB now works. Some minor glitches, but acceptable..
