sounds like the saftey switch located where the lid closes, you will find attached to the inside of the lid a pin or tab that when the lid closes allows the washing machine to turn on and turns off when the lid is opened, to test if the switch is not working, with the lid open take a pencile or pen and push down on the switch which is located just oppsite where the tab or pin on lid comes in contact with the machine

Pull up on the cover, after being released you can find where the lid switch, the location was near the water level sensor. can be used to manually switch, or a light sensor, located under the cover of your washing machine. On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

ck lid screws especially on newer models on these the lid switch is located left rear corner just behind lid hinge if switch is on right side close lid slowly and listen for click if none heard try pressing down on lid at switch location if washer starts replace switch if switch lever broke change switch..on other type switch lower lid slowly and listen for click if none heard and hinge screws ok raise lid and push lid hinge toward back slightly and try again still no click raise console switch is on left and just snaps in place

This is a symptom of a loose or defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid, you should hear the "clicking" sound of the lid switch as it is activated. On other models, the lid switch is located on the left-hand side in the by the hinge of the lid under the washer casing rim. This switch is out of view and is activated by a rod on the lid switch hinge. Sometimes the rod requires adjusting to correct a simple contact problem. NOTE: Your washer will not have the small opening on the right-hand side of the wash tub rim if equipped with this type of lid switch).
