Most Sony (not all) 3 blinks is lamp door not properly closed.
It means that but not really: On some models it means the door has become warped from heat--I can tell you a easy way to prove if this is your problem.
Front shield has to be on these removed (outer one the covers lamp door)
Let me know and I would be happy to explain further.

6 blinks is an indication of a missing voltage. It's not the lamp or balast. It may be an indication of a thermal or heat trouble. These sets have thermal protection because of the heat created by the lamp. The thermal fuse may have opened. If this has happened you should have professional check it out. This set has 3 or 4 fans. These should be checked out or replaced. I suggest a Sony authorized repair. This is not a repair I would recomend for you to attempt. This set keeps a record of it's falures and the pro can check for any other trouble also.
SOURCE: Problem for Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55WF655. Hello,
5 times Red LED blinks means Lamp Driver Error. (KDF-55WF655)
2 possible reasons, either Lamp is gone or Ballast Supply got bad.
Replace lamp first, in most cases it solved the problem.
How old is this TV and did you replaced lamp recently?
Thanks.
SOURCE: Sony Wega Tv powers on w/ green power light and
need to know how many time the red light is blinking there should be a pause. 4 blinks is a fan, 3 blinks is the lamp door is not closed 6 blinks is thermal sensor.
SOURCE: what does 3 flashing red lights mean on aa 55in
make sure lamp cover (first plastic cover that was removed from tv cabinet to replace lamp) is fixed back properly because 3 times red light flashing indicates that lamp cover is not in its place.
Thanks.
If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.
If the green light flashes and the picture comes on momentarily but then goes off, and the green button flashes until the set restarts, then the seal around the lamp mount is loose and needs to be refitted.
If the picture on your Grand Wega cuts in and out and the green standby light flashes, both of the set's STKs need to be replaced. STKs are small chips on your television's circuit boards and are identifiable by their labels. The specific STKs used in your Grand Wega TV will be identifiable by the numbered labels on top of the STKs.
When you plug in your Sony Wega and hear a loud popping sound, it's probably caused by a defect in the high-voltage circuit. Let the professionals take care of this one.
If, after turning on your Sony Wega, you can hear your set but the screen is black, you most likely need to replace your projection lamp.
