If you are talking about it won't play, the laser pickup is the issue, have you tried other dics? if no change! buy a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, this will clean the laser lens and perhaps get it running.

John, I did buy a cleaning disc, used it, and still the indicated DVD would not read/play - while others would. However, a little bit later, after my son played another movie, he tried the rejected DVD again - and the player is now "reading" and playing the DVD. Suspect there's a bit of "memory" and unknown program element that - at first, anyway - will continue to "remember" and reject a given disc. Should note that the DVD, "Sister Act I," had some food-finger prints on its playing surface - likely triggering the "memory/response" undisclosed programming with the player. And then, after cleaning, that first attempt at playing the then-cleaned CD was again rejected; but, later, it was accepted. Theory, at least.

Rca dvd player movies freeze up

Have you been using this DVD player for several years? If so, there may just be residue on the lens inside, which keeps it from reading a DVD and causes it to freeze. Have you tried running a cleaning disc through it to see if that fixes the problem? Worth a try. ;)

Dear Sirs, Recently, my Sharp dvd-video combi player has been encountering some problems regarding the playing of dvd's. When I watch a movie, in several occasions the movie will freeze up. And for...

the DVD unit in your sharp is a self contained unit. IT is only repaired by replacing the DVD as a assembly. the cost of replacing may exceed the cost of purchasing a new one.
The most likely cause of your problem is in the brass gear assy that runs the optical pick up in the traverse deck. IT is not an available part.

The durabrand 1700

It could be the codec u use to encode the movie,
secondly could be a firm ware problem of your dvd player.
Other than this I can't think of any other reason. or just may be the type of recoreder u use or the recoding programe. If u had check these, then get another player
Sorry, this is all I can think of.
PS. the player firmware is the main reason to me.

DVD freezing

I have had the freezing problem on Sony, Insignia, Cyberhome, HP computer DVD drives, etc.
Based upon very numerous incidents (believe me, I mean hundreds) the problem occurs most frequently after about the first hour as the track moves outward from the hub (and velocity per 360 degree turning increases).(Recording is from the hub out, not from the outer edge in towards the hub). An engineer suggested that the increasing velocity creates the greater possibility of the reader "missing" a data fragment which, in turn, "freezes" the image presently in the buffer. It may "recover"
and move data along again but will probably "freeze" again.
The following definitely helps but does not always work:: Keep the track "tight" by recording actual
running time NOT longer than 30% of the maximum capacity
permitted by the selected speed. Example: On a Sony RDR GX7, I record not more than 60 mins actual time at LP speed
which, on this machine, permits a maximum capacity of 180 minutes using LP. Based on literally hundreds of DVD recordings, I can say positively that the above approach HELPS
limit the problem but it DOES NOT totally eliminate it.
I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS, PARTICULARLY PROS, WHO HAVE INFORMATION ON THIS SUBJECT. Even reduced, the problem is irritting.
