Hello - My Kenmore Elite Top Loading Washer stopped mid-cycle tonight. It had filled for the rinse portion of the cycle, and would not start agitating. My wife called me in and at first I wasn't able to get it to do anything. Tested the wall outlet, unplugged & replugged, tried different places on the dial, and nothing. I was attempting to remove to top control panel to see if I could get at the lip switch somehow, but I couldn't get the cover off. At some point, I did something messing with the console so that now when you pull the knob to turn on the washer, I get a 'hum' until I turn it back off, but nothing else happens. I am considering manually draining as much water as I can to narrow down the clutch assembly, but I'm pretty out of my league here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Kevin

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

You could have a bad lid switch or a bad water level switch or a bad timer. In that order.
Open the control panel to access the components listed.
Make a small wire jumper and jump out the lid switch. Turn the timer on and see if it works. If yes, replace the lid switch.
If no, check power from the water level switch to the timer.
Terminals V to T should read closed on a meter set for ohms.
If the water level switch is closed the timer is bad.

I'VE HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE FILL, NO AGITATE, DRAIN, AND NO SPIN. YOU HAVE A STRIPPED DRY COUPLING, WHICH IS A PLASTIC RUBBER COMBINATION THAT CONNECTS THE MOTOR TO THE TRANSMISSION. REMOVE SCREWS AND FLIP TOP CONSOLE UP. FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER REMOVE CLIPS AT CORNERS, DISCONNECT 2 WIRE PLUG. PULL WHOLE OUTER CABINET TOWARDS YOU AND PULL AWAY FROM MACHINE. LOOKING AT THE BOTTOM CENTER, REMOVE SCREWS HOLDING MOTOR CLIPS, DISCONNECT ALL PLUGS (HARNESSES) AND REMOVE MOTOR. COUPLING WILL BE VISIBLE AND PEGS/RUBBER WILL BE WORN, REPLACE AND REASSEMBLE
