Wavy vertical lines on projection TV on start up; that slowly fade away

Each time TV is turned on, wavy lines about 1 inch apart vertical top to bottom of screen appear and then slowly fade. At first they faded in matter of a minute; now 2 months later it takes 30 minutes and picture starting to not get fully clear even after that time. Is there an easy fix or affordable fix, or is the TV history? Is it worth getting repaired by TV repairman?

SOURCE: vertical hold wavy then no picture and power lite flashing

you are probably having 2 problems. on that model there was a jumper wire the fed the convergence amps power and would get very bad cracked solder. and casue some fuses to open on the main deflection board. if that is there i would recomend replacing the 2 convergence amps(stk392-110) and open fuses. but your wavy lines are going to be all the 10mf16v surface mount capacitors inside the hyperunit(figital scan card) it is a square metal case located behind the input board.*****it is soldering in with 4 tabs on the bottom side of the signal board so be careful not to just start pulling on it to get it out*****

The WS Mitsubishi has a known problem with the Power Supply electrolytic capacitors and the electrolytic caps on the DM board. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7065906-mitsubishi_turn_flashing_power_timer for more detailed information. The problem you are describing would be the first part of the known problem. There are several repair/replacement choices listed in my tip.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

hi
You are experiencing a lack of vertical deflection or vertical collapse. Since it will come back the first thing I would suspect is “ring cracks” in the solder joint in the vertical circuit, mainly the vertical IC. These suspect solder joint can be re-soldered and the television set repaired.
I would suggest that you contact a local servicer. If you are repairing the set yourself, be careful, there is always a risk of shock when dealing with electronics.
OR
Check your equipment connections. Disconnect your equipment (VCR, DVD or set-top box) from the TV and reconnect, making sure each connection is in tight.
