Fan is running in the back and inside freezer compartment. Compressor sounds like it is trying to come on but then has a whining sound and clicks off after a little bit.
There should be a small relay switch near the compressor. Sometimes
dust or (ugh) a bug may get in there and block the relay from starting
the compressor.

There are a few possible reasons why your Whirlpool GS6NHAXVK refrigerator's freezer is not freezing, but just cooling. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check the temperature settings: Ensure that the temperature settings are set to the appropriate level. The recommended temperature for the freezer is between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15 degrees Celsius).
Check the freezer fan: The freezer fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer. If it's not working, then the air won't circulate properly, and your freezer won't freeze. You can check if the fan is working by opening the freezer door and listening for the fan sound. If it's not working, you may need to replace it.
Check the defrost system: If the defrost system isn't working correctly, then ice can build up on the evaporator coils, blocking the flow of cold air. You can check the defrost system by removing the back panel inside the freezer and looking for any ice buildup. If there is a lot of ice buildup, you may need to replace the defrost thermostat, defrost timer, or defrost heater.
Check the condenser fan: The condenser fan is responsible for drawing air across the condenser coils to remove heat from the refrigerator. If it's not working correctly, the refrigerator will not be able to remove heat, and the freezer will not be able to freeze. You can check the condenser fan by removing the back panel and looking for any obstructions. If the fan is not running, you may need to replace it.
Check the compressor: The compressor is responsible for compressing the refrigerant, which cools the air in the refrigerator. If it's not working correctly, then the refrigerator won't be able to cool properly. You can check the compressor by listening for a humming sound coming from the back of the refrigerator. If you don't hear anything, or if the sound is abnormal, you may need to replace the compressor.
If none of these troubleshooting steps work, it's best to call a professional appliance repair technician to diagnose and fix the issue.
is the freezer fan running? is there frost on the rear freezer wall if so it would be a defrost issue. if no frost on freezer rear panel it would sound like a bad compressor or sealedsystem leak.
inside the compressor body there are springs which sometimes break and allow the motor to knock against the outer enclosure. There is no fix for this as the system is sealed, short of replacing the compressor. Not a problem with operation, but quite distracting. On another note, if the freezer compartment is beginning to freeze up or the fan blade was installed too far back on the shaft, this could also cause noise. (it will only make the sound in the freezer compartment when the fan is running if this is the case). Hope this helps.
The condenser fan motor at the back near the compressor is either dirty or not running at proper speeds. Clean the coils for air flow over compressor and if the fan is not running replace the fan.
So your refrigerator section is cooling fine ? When the compressor motor is running and you open your freezer, is the fan running ? You might need a simple fan replacement - The most costly repairs to a refrigerator is usually the compressor - as long as your compressor is running and you have cooling, the other most common problems are control board faults, evap fans, defrost timers, all of which can be fixed.
Is your freezer iced up when this happened - turning the refrigerator off and unplugging it, try removing the back panel of your freezer and locate the fan - look for anything obstructing the blades - maybe ice or other......otherwise you may need this serviced.
Is it worth it ? It depends - how much did you nitially pay for this ? How long have you had it ? How much are estimated costs for the repair - if the problem is one thing needing replaced and doesn't cost you a lot of money, yes it is worth it.
Please check the model number again, I can't locate that number. The number should be like for example 194.258978
Look at following areas for the model number
Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
Beside Compressor Door On Right End
Near Rear Of Cabinet
Inside Liner At Top
I think your refrigerator has a defrost timer and this may be the problem, Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze
Look for ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer.
If ice is there you have a defrost parts issue.
If not, check the compressor to make sure it is running.
Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first.
See http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA43-57.gif
for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.
