Liteon DDa110 DVD recoder appx 18 months old worked perfectly until recently. Now will not read old or brand new discs except those commercially prerecorded.Constantly stays''reading disc'' for hours, have tried switching off/on no good. This may be coincidental but I have heard what sounds like a fan coming from unit for a few minutes & then goes off.Trouble seems to have started since then

It could be as simple as needing to clean the lens that the laser goes through that reads the disk. there are cleaners available for purchase at any retail outlet. If this doesn't fix it then it could be that you have an internal circuitry malfunction. you stated that you hear a fan inside turn on this is a good sign, however there is still a good amount of heat inside to the internal circuit board. over time they tend to fail even though the fan is working. your 2 choices at this point is either have it repaired(the cost of which could be more than the deck is worth and also providing they have the parts for it) or you can just purchase a new one that is better in technology and will have a better usefulness. hope this helps you...please rate the solution.......thanks

Hi

  • Check that the power and controller cables are securely attached to the drive.
  • Verify that pin #1 of the controller cable is matched to pin #1 on the drive and on the motherboard.
  • The operating system may not be configured to use or "see" the drive.
  • If it never worked, verify that the jumpers on the drive are set correctly.
  • Press the button once and wait at least a minute.
  • In Windows, go to "My Computer", right click on the DVD-ROM drive and choose "Eject" from the menu.
  • With the computer unplugged, you can open most DVD-ROM drawers with a unwound paper clip. Poke it, as straight as possible, into the hole and push with moderate force (the paper clip may bend a little) to force the drawer open a half inch. Now pull the drawer the rest of the way open.
  • If the problem persists, check that the power connector and controller cable are securely connected to the drive.
  • A disk may be jammed or broken inside the drive. Access may require the removal of the drive's outer case. If this is necessary, it is very likely that the drive will have to be replaced.
Thank you

The disk may be damaged or unreadable.

Try removing and reinserting the disk.

        Try cleaning the disk.

        Clean the lens.
    And then try it..

    Thank you

First clean the laser head with a Qtip and alcohol. It gotta be perfectly clean, so wipe with fresh brand name qtip and make sure there is not a single dust particle on it. You gotta remove the cabinet with star screwdriver. Your beam might be tired. First try with the clean up! Unplugg before opening!

Won't record on DVD+R discs.

These ilo R04 only record on 4x speed or slower, the new 8x or 16x won't work or will damage laser. The new variable speed discs work, these say 1x-16x.
Some brands of discs won't work in Ilo's.Try name brands disc like Sony, cheap brands often won't work.
Have you cleaned laser use commercial disc cleaner?Laser can be manually cleaned with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires opening dvd burner. If you do this make sure electrical plug is pulled, laser will cause serious burns if you remove top while still plugged in.

LITEON LVW 5001 doesnt recognize DVD's

Laser either dirty or starting to go.Try cleaning laser with commerical disc cleaner, put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushing.Laser can be cleaned manually with a Q tip dipped in rubbing alcohol but this requires opening burner. If you do this MAKE CERTAIN ELECTRICAL PLUG IS PULLED,lasers cause nasty burns.
Some times the problem is just the brand of disc, some brands don''t work in Liteon's.
If laser is going the burner can be replaced. Most of the Liteon 5001's used Liteon 401s burners,411s or 451s dvd burners all will work. The dvd burners mount from the bottom PC burners mount from the side so they would have to be adapted, many PC burners won't work in these older liteons some freeze up the second you hit fast forward.

Can't get reliable recording discs

There actually is a recommended list on Lite-on website but I have used bulk-paq, ridisk and phillips without problems until it stopped reading any alltogether. I recently cleaned it with a DVD cleaner disk and its working properly again. Also on the website is a download for updated firmware which may help in your case.

DVD Recoder trouble

I have the LVW 5005 and was having a similar problem. Unplugged it tore it apart (looking if anything looked physically wrong) plugged it back in and it worked (and still is). Try unplugging it, letting is sit for 1/2 hour and plugging it back in. Might get lucky.
