I have a toshiba satellite A 105-S2236 system unit. i bought it cheap, but there is a hdd password on it. is there a way to find out what it is? or am i just out of money? would greatly appreciate the advice.

Read the manual.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "ToshibaSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Look for manuals and search them for Bios Password.

If you are the original owner Toshiba will reset the bios for a fee and it is not cheap, they may include the HDD reset, if not! www.ebay.com type password, or hard drive password. I would check bios password, probably a lot cheaper if you can find the right seller, also check www.download.com some software may be free.

IF you have your bill of sale, a good local shop can reset the password but it will still cost you. At least you avoid the shipping and maybe it will be less than $100.

Programs that reset passwords are expensive to buy, IF you can find them.

Otherwise, yes, you have to send it back.

Because this model can have 2 possible wireless card.

You get 3 attempts,if after which you have'nt got it right you need to shut it down and try again. But the easiest way is to contact Toshiba,Because if the laptop is genuinely yours you would have registered it when you bought it!!, if you did'nt then your stuck in a sticky place,like when Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun!! Basically you will have to prove that you are the rightful owner i.e. Proof of purchase
