The NEC SuperScript 1260 has a parallel printer port. So you would need a parallel to usb adapter. These aren't very expensive; depending on the brand and length you'll pay between $8 and $15. These will be closer to $20 to $30. Then you need a standard parallel printer cable. Many computer parts sites, including Amazon.com, will have both. A bigger problem may be the printer drivers. NEC did not update the drivers after Windows XP. (Some XP drivers will work under Vista.) NEC doesn't supply the drivers on their site: https://support.necam.com/Printers/Drivers/ . They refer you to the original driver CD that came with the printer. A few sites may have these drivers online. However, I haven't seen a link to a known trust-worthy site with the XP driver. I would say yes... Miracle. You can attempt (if this printer will support HP emulation) and I think it does. Simply, choose the "HP Laserjet 4" driver (as generic as possible) you may be able to get it to print.

Have you tried right clicking on the printer icon in your taskbar (bottom right), opening up the queue, and cancelling that way?

This has been a problem since XP. However I found that if you install HP Laserjet IIp drivers the printer WILL work in Vista! You won't have all functions but at least it is very suable. Hope this helps!

I suspect the ballast (supply for the HID lamp) has failed due to an expired lamp. Probably not ecconomic to repair.

Six flashes is lamp error. Either the lamp and/or balast unit has failed.

Your statement indicates'there is a fan issue'. It may just require cleaning but may need replacing. Nothing to do with the lamp, unless it has overheated and also needs replacing.

In some such equipment, there could be a problem of overheating of some component or assembly and due to overheating, there might be some sensor which is as a safety measure keeping the equipment off. I had seen some such equipment which stopped working when overheated but worked again when the temperature was normal. My experience belongs to the time when there was nothing like shutdown and we had to manually off the overhead projectors. Anyway, one can check for excessive heating at places and then doubt a particular part of the projector which may require replacement.
