Depending on the make model and year, it could be a binding throttle cable, or sludge on the throttle plate.

I have a 94 chevy cavalier z24 3.1L that idles weird the rpms jump from below 1 to 2 and sometimes to have to hold the gas pedal to floor to start it and sometimes if you dont keep gas pedal on it sta

Its a fuel injection issue likely the pressure regulator check the throttle position sensor and all vacuum related issues to fuel and air intake systems .Then again if the throttle plate is stuck it got way to hot and the engine is likely damaged .The throttle problem could be a frayed cable that sticks in the jacket .
You need to look at all of this stuff and think about it before you do any repairs.
I can't see the vehicle check the cable and the throttle plate movement first it should move freely no binding or snagging if the plate is sticking not closing Ect it would cause this condition .
Lack of fuel pressure would do the same thing .

1990 Ford Tauras 3.0l -throttle stickswide open

check the trottle cable for sticking by unhooking it from the throttle shaft and move through out the full movement there should be no sticking or binding.check the area around the gas pedal to make sure there is nothing that could have caused the problem.if there are okay then check the throttle bore and plate for dirt and binding by looking inside the throttle to see the plate and bore.move the throttle shaft through out the complete range and see if the shaft sticks or binds also checking the cleanliness of the throttle plate and bore.if its dirty clean it this may be all you need to do.if the shaft binds then clean the shaft area to see if it fixes the problem,if not then the throttle shaft may have to be repaired or the throttle body may need replacing,if its the cable then replace the cable.

I am having a problem with my 92 honda accord. the problem I'm having is when I try to acelerate from a dead stop my rpms get stuck at about 2 or 3 thousand rpms it'll get stuck and it doesn't pass those...

As for the sticking throttle plate, hit it with 1000 grit sand paper, and then the area where it actually touches the inside of the throttle body. MAKE SURE ITS 100% clean!!! The reason it is sticking is because of deposits, so really clean it up. Also clean the perimeter of the throttle plate. Hit that with 1000 grit sand paper as well until its shiny again. I just finished doing this and it worked like a dream. Also, when youre done, hit it with some intake manifold cleaner. It has a decent lubricant after it dries that reduces stick. That is your problem. The TPS is probably not messing with your idle, mine's a 93 and it still reads stock voltage. Clean your IACV with some electrical kleen, and then take off your FITV and clean that as well. open and close the throttle plate like 20 times to make sure it's not going to stick, good luck

Have a 2003 gmc yukon and every now and then ill be driving and as i'm about to make a turn the truck will shut it's self off. I turn the truck back on and it turns on without a problem.

I suggest performing a throttle body cleaning.
Remove the black air filter housing and hose going to
engine. Grab some rubber gloves, carburater cleaner, and
rags. Open throttle plate , spray some cleaner onto a rag
then clean plate and housing. DO NOT SPRAY CLEANER
INTO THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE ELECTRICAL SENSORS
MAY GET DAMAGED. Make sure throttle plate moves freely
and does not stick. Re- install housing and hose.
Test drive and confirm repair. Good luck.

Throttle sticking on 2001 dodge intrepid

I would spray some WD-40 on the throttle cable, also, you may need to clean the throttle body and throttle plate, sometimes there will be some carbon build up that will make the throttle plate stick in the throttle body, Gumout and an old toothbrush works good.

Why does my gas pedal stick while driving. 1995 isuzu rodeo. it happen when i try to accelerate. its worse when its cold.

The throttle-body (or throttle plate inside the throttle-body) is probably gunked-up with carbon deposits and needs a good cleaning.

Take the air snorkel off of the throttle body and look inside while holding the throttle plate open. If you have thick black deposits on the back side of the throttle plate, you can clean it by spraying some throttle body cleaner (Available at any parts store) onto a rag and using an old tooth brush to push the rag, clean all the black gunk out of the area.

I recommend an old tooth brush because using something hard like a screwdriver can scratch the inside of the aluminum throttle body and actually make the throttle stick worse. I don't recommend spraying the throttle body cleaner directly into the throttle body because it can end up in the air plenum where it may loosen some deposits that can cause severe engine damage.
