Can't find a way to make the interior light come on when the doors are opened. Will only do so manually. Is there a way to automate it?

These can be a nightmare!
Try pushing / pulling all cables and rods available. And key operation if connected.
If there is a solenoid to operate it, remove the connector and use a meter to find the motor wires. Cautiously apply 12v from a handdrill battery - first one way - then the other to see if the drive motor will unlock it.
As a last resort - Drill a 1/4" hole in the lock body - and use that as a pilot hole for a 20mm holesaw - destroy the lock mechanism to gain entry - the lock was beyond repair anyway - so needed replacement - Just don't damage other components if possible.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

I have the same problem. I thought it was an electrical problem. My interior lights would go one and off and I would hear clicking noises. I took it to a mechanic and he said my switches for the sliding doors are bad so he had to order them from toyota and I'm getting them replaced tomorrow. Take it to a mechanic and get the switches replaced.

battery cables are totally clean?
hen try this
Use the key to manually unlock the driver's side door. This temporarily deactivates the alarm, giving you access to the inside of the suv.Place the key in the ignition and turn it forward one notch so that the battery activates, but the car isn't running. Look for the alarm box under the dashboard. Some models have an override button that's either black or red. Other models have a toggle switch on the box to override the alarm. Press and hold the override button in until you hear the alarm chirp once, signaling the alarm is disabled. If you have a toggle, flip it in the opposite direction
