WindTunnel HEPA Filter won't spin

I have a Hoover WindTunnel 2 Bagless with the lifetime HEPA Filter. The vacuum wasn't picking up so good, and i noticed that the HEPA Filter was totally clogged! I was able to clean it and now it won't spin??? Which is probably why it got clogged in the first place.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

My wind tunnel has NO spinning action. The rollers are spinning but there is no wind sucking up things.

I just spent over 2 hours trying to figure out the HEPA filter issue. I was able to get it all cleaned out, including the large amount of dirt stuck behind the filter.... all to no avail. The filter still only wavers back and forth but will not fully rotate. I called customer service that was a joke! If anyone has any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. The nearest hoover repair store is 60 miles away so that is out of the question.

Yes, my wife found my windtunnel not spinning, I think it is activated by the vacum when it is released from the up right position to the operational position( unlock with foot swith ) and the spinner is not rotating,

    ANY IDEA'S. Thanks!

I just fixed my HEPA filter not rotating!!

It involves taking apart the vacuum HEPA area. All screws are the same size. There are a LOT of 'em. Really straightforward putting it back together too.

ok, once you take the HEPA canister area off the vacuum, careful with the wires! Unplug them from the controller board. You open up the HEPA chamber by removing more screws until you see where the motor that turns the filter is mounted on the side. Remove motor from the green chamber. Note where the washer goes. Once the motor is off, you'll see that the center hub that drives the HEPA filter is rounded out. What I did was jam little bits of aluminum from a pop can into the space between the circle and the square to force the walls back to square. I started by folding a little piece of aluminum over and over so it was about three layers thick. Jammed that in. That wasn't quite enough thickness so I shoved another piece with it. If you can find something that is about 4 times the thickness of a pop can aluminum, that'd probably work too. Slight wedge shape on the tip would help. Any sort of tiny shim.

To test your work, just put a couple of holder screws into the HEPA cannister housing, plug in the cover/switch, plug in the HEPA moter. Turn it on for a few seconds to make sure the filter turns. Then you can add more thickness to the hub or put things back together.

I had the same problem and I did the action described in solution #2 but the filter stopped rotating after aabout 5 minutes of vacuuming. I then went back in to the HEPA filter and removed the black scrapper piece (not the little black clicker shaft thing) and so for it is still working. One additional remark on the motor. The plastic rotator the turns the filter has 3 sections. Two slice half moon slots and one rectangle slot that the filter shaft fits into. I cut and shaped a popcycle stick and inserted one into each of the half moon slots to firm up the fit of the rectangle slot. That has given a less flexible area to hold the HEPA filter shaft. This is good.

Was able to fix mine too. Hepa was wobbling slightly but not moving. Problem was the gear that engages to the shaft that moves the hepa was failed. The gear has a slot for the driveshaft in the centre, and voids to either side. Those voids are presumably to cause the gear to fail, saving damage to the tiny little cheap motor that turns the hepa. Fill the voids with round toothpicks until the centre slot is the same shape as the shape on the opposite side of the gear (not too many, you'd never get them back out.) Break the tpicks off flush and put it back together.

Sorry everyone but that is a common problem, the filter gets so dirty it stops spinning and then burns out the motor that is supposed to turn it. It is a nightmare to fix.

Do i need to let the filter dry before using my hoover bagless hepa vacuum?

Yes, make sure it is completely dry. Other wise, very fine dirt will be much more difficult to remove.

I have the bagless hoover windtunnel and it doesn't pick up anything and it is very hard to push. Changed the belt and The rollers are spinning and the filter has been changed. What else can I do?

It sounds like there are dirt and hair wound around the wheel axels cousing them not to spin freely. You have to remove all hair and carpet fiber. Then drop a drop of lubricant oil on the axel.
Change the filter.
You should even Check the floor nozzle for clogged dirt.

Hepa filter does not turn on hoover wind tunnel vacuum model U6630900. It was working (turning) and I cleaned the filter and canister and now it no longer spins when the vacuum is running.

The part you refer to is not the HEPA filter. It's a very common misconception that that part spins - it looks like it when there's dust whirling around it. In fact, it does not spin - there are no visible moving parts.

Burning smell coming from vacuum

use a penny to turn the 2 screws on top a quater turn then fold down the vacuum and lift up the cover and you will have access to the belt. Clean the small hepa filter with soapy water. their may be 2 of them. The cannnister filters need to be shaken but not washed. Good luck.

Clogged hepa filter

If the hepa filter is clogged chances are it is not turning like it is supposed to. Hoover apperantly has a terrible R&D department because this is a bad unit. The filter is supposed to be self cleaning because it spins and a little tab is supposed to knock out dirt but does a crappy job of that. The transmission is what spins the filter and this must be replaced. If in warranty take it to your local Best Buy for service.
