Older Vornado window air circulator, model 280AE, need new switch

I own a Vornado window air circulator, model 280AE, serial AMJ190, purchased around 1986 from a specility catalogue. I have never seen that model since. It has a variable speed switch which I blew when I accidently severed a wire while changing the fan body from intake to exhaust. Anyways, my good neighbor Bob rewired to the motor to bypass the switch and the fan works well but on one speed. Can that switch be easily replaced so the fan can resume its normal functioning? If so, what do I look for? This fan has served me well for many years.

Many thanks! Molly Q.

Model FA1-0013 TYPE SWAN SERIAL # MAY00 VORNADO FAN When you plug it in and turn on the switch it does not work.

The motor has a single-use fuse in the run winding; that may be tripped. Or there could be no power going to the motor. Some of the swans had a power lead that was too short and pulled out of the switch. Take the 5 feet/screws out of the fan and remove the bottom plate. Are any of the wires loose that go to the switch? One power lead goes to the white wire that runsd directly to the motor: is that hooked up? If you need more help, contact me.

Vornado Circulating Fan - motor will run but blades will not turn.

Does the motor spin, but the blade is not turning?
The motor has a D shaped shaft. If the hole in the blade that the shaft goes in is rounded, then the blade will spin. In that case you need a new blade. Vornado can supply that.

I have an older Vornado 280B (it looks just like the current 730 series with the small stand). I've been able to remove the front grill & clean it and the blades, but now I'd like to remove the rear...

It's similar to the 600 and 700 series based on a picture of those compared to the 280b model I have. http://www.vornado.com/product-support/support/faq.aspx
