Step 1: To turn off the hover option on your Windows 7 laptop, click your Start button (bottom left of your screen), then type main.cpl in the search box and click Enter on your keyboard. You can also go to your Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, then choose Mouse beneath Devices and Printers.
Step 2: When the Mouse Properties box opens for your trackpad, choose the Device Settings tab to the far right, then click the Settings button below Devices.
Step 3: Double-click the word Tapping (or click the plus sign in front of Tapping once) in the list to the left, then uncheck Enable Tapping. Click OK for both boxes, and you're done. Now you can click when YOU want to click, not when your mouse decides to.

Boost your computer performance

Your computer's performance mainly depends on the "Processor" and "RAM" availability. I am sure that whatever computer you have is capable enough to run your normal daily tasks smoothly. It should not stuck or freeze while checking emails, writing documents, watching movies or songs, printing or doing business online. These are some very basic tasks and require minimum resources to execute. Any computer with a normal system configuration should work them out easily, but we still face sluggish performance or freezing up while doing these tasks.

The reason behind this is the processor and memory status of your computer at that time. You can check the real time status from "Task manager" which you can pull up by pressing "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" key on keyboard. Following steps would optimize the processor and memory uses of your computer and make it more efficient:

· Check running processes at background:

Every application we use has several processes running in background to make it work. Sometimes we are not even aware of the extra unwanted software or applications which start automatically and keep running in background and eat up our processor and memory usage. This you can check by Task manager's "processes" list. Also some of these applications show their notification icons in "system tray" area which is where you see the system time on your desktop. Try to keep minimum application running in background and this will make our system smooth as it will have more resources to utilize.

Follow the below steps to disable unwanted applications:

1. Click on "start", click on "run" or press "Flag key + R" from keyboard. Type" msconfig" on the "run" window and hit "enter".

2. This should bring "system configuration utility" windows on screen.

3. Click on the "startup" TAB on the top menu. This tab holds all applications which start automatically when you turn on your computer.

4. Check the list carefully and uncheck the ones you don't need.

5. If you are not sure about some application, type its name in google search, figure out its use and decide to whether you want to keep it running or disable it.

6. Once you are done with the List, click on "Services "tab on top.

7. This "services" tab holds all important programs which give a platform for other software to work.

8. Check the box in bottom which says "Hide all Microsoft services".

9. Now you have the list of non-Microsoft programs running in background. Some of these might be you antivirus software, backup software or messengers and others may be unwanted ones.

10. Identify the not required items and uncheck them.

11. Click on "Apply" and then "OK".'

12. It might give you a windows asking for "restart computer" or "Exit without restart ".

13. Choose "Exit without restart"

14. Close all other windows make sure none of you important files are open and then restart your computer.

15. If later you want to enable any services back, just follow the same process and "Check" them in the list.

· Keep track of free disk space on root drive:

Free space on root drive (mostly c :\) is very important as this space is used for virtual memory or paging, hibernation and other system requirements. Ensure that at least 3 - 5 GB space should be available on root drive. If you have less than this, delete some temporary or junk files from "temp" and "%temp%" folders.

Dell C640 change touchpad settings

All,

I read on this a while then found these 2 packages and downloaded from DELL's site:

R49155.EXE
R46325.EXE

I installed the R49155.EXE and got 2 more tabs in the properties window for my mouse (Start + Control Panel + Mouse).

In the new "Device Settings" tab I can either totally disable the touchpad or in "Settings", just disable the "TAP to click"; which is the feature causing the cursor to bounce all over.

Also in the active application section of the launch bar, lower right next to clock, an ICON is now present and "TAP to click" is an option, which I can now easily inable/disable; after opening the ICON with a click.

As I understand it, R46325.EXE is the R49155.EXE on steroids, but did not need that.

Cheers!
