I have hp pavilion dv1000 computer. i was using skype v3 for two years with no problem. then i installed skype v5.3. Since then my microphone doesn't work. It looks like some setting got changed. I cannot get the microphone to work and cannot use skype anymore. Please help. The microphone is internal Conexant HD audio.

Microsoft are the problem, you need to have the same version of Skype on both machines.

I understand that you are not able to us the microphone with Skype. As per the information provided in User Guide for the model it seems that the model has an Internal microphones .

Try configuring the internet microphone to use with Skype.
Open Skype - Tools - options- Audio settings- Set the input device as internal microphone and check the operation.

Please check your Sound Driver.

Assuming you are using Windows 7
<Start>, <Cotrol Panel>, <Ease of Access>, <Speech Recognition>, <Set up Microphone> Follow prompts and instructions. Once your Microphone is set up, your Skype will work.

Start skype. Choose the menu calls then sound settings, select the device through which to speak: web camera, if you are using a built-in microphone or any other bluetooth headset if you are using or external microphone

You can try this, it might be the problem. The microphone is by default, muted. The Skype program "should" un-mute it, but sometimes the notebooks mic is not fully compliant. So, to manually un-mute the microphone, go into the volume control panel by double clicking the speaker icon in the system tray. If the microphone section is not displayed toward the right, you'll have to activate it in the Options|Properties menu item. Put a check mark in the box beside microphone. Remove the check mark in the mute box under microphone.

You may also try to uninstall through Device Manager and allow the PC to rediscover the mic again.

Click on the Volume icon in the tray in left bottom corner of the screen. Sometimes for no reason the mic gets disbled (on mute). unmute it and see if the mic works.

go to system preferences and it should be in speech or in the audio section ( I think its in speech ) which should give you the option to hold down a key in order to speak ie esc

when you hold down the key thats specified for speech it should work.

try this on both computers:

first solution:

go to start

control pannel

sounds and audio devices

click on audio

make sure that a mic is selected.

second solution:

double click on the small spkr icon at the end of ur taskbar

make sure ur mic channel is enabled
