Are you sure that you have set the latitude and longitude units correctly? Under Preferences go to Set Units, press done until you come to latitudes and longitudes. You have three choices, Degrees in decimal form, Minutes, or Minutes and Seconds. Printed maps might use any of these forms of latitude and longitude. Avation maps are usually different than ground maps. Hiking maps also use either of the three forms.

How to put in cordinance

Navigating to latitude and logitude is not supported on all devices. If it is supported on your GPS model, from the main MENU, tap CHANGE PREFERENCES, then tap SET UNIT, select the Latitude and longitude format in the Coordinate display screen and tap DONE.

Then from the MENU - tap Navigate TO ... select Latitude and Longitude, enter the coordinates and tap OK

Does aby know if my Garmin 1310 can use OS grd references instead of longditute and latitude? If so how is it set up?

Unfortunately Garmin satnavs do not allow OS Grid References instead of Longitude and Latitude. However if you need to find the Longitude and Latitude of a point it can be done by going to http://www.gorissen.info/Pierre/maps/googleMapLocationv3.php Zoom in on the location you want and left click on it. The longitude and latitude will appear in a box to the right of the map. You need to set the co-ordinate system of the satnav to match the longitude and latitude format of the satnav. To do this touch Where to, Co-Ordinates, Format. Enter the co-ordinates and touch next. It's not an ideal solution but it might help you out if you're stuck.

Latitude & longitude

Here is the way to find the Lat/Lon Info on TomTom.
Tap on main screen. You will be taken to Main menu 1 of 2. Tap on the arrow. You will move to Main menu 2 of 2. Tap on Browse map. You will see the lat/Lon info on the bottom left hand corner (of a selected location) Tap on another location and you will see that the lat/Lon will change to that of the newly selected location. You can use the slider on the right hand side to zoom in or zoom out so that you can get the Lat/Lon info of far off locations. However, for this purpose, google maps would be a better option. But if you know the address, use the find button which will give you easier access to Lat/Lon info.

Can my TomTom XXL 540-S be used with GPS coordinates?

If you are referring to Latitude and Longitude , yes. You can use those co-ordinates to navigate to a destination. This especially works fine in countries where the Avenue and street information is not available. Google maps can give you the latitude and longitude coordinates. You can fed those into the GPS and navigate. Please note, you will need the maps of the region involved. Click (Tap) on the main screen. Tap on: navigate to Tap on : arrow Tap on: Latitude longitude Enter latitude and longitude using keyboard, Latitude first and longitude next. Be careful while you do this and do not forget to enter the directions North, West etc.

How do I use coordinates? I entered map coordinates and it took us to the wrong place.

Some Tomtoms can use latitude and longitude coordinates. They refer, of course, to points on the map.
To use coordinates on some tomtoms you tap the Browse Map option. A general Map of the route is displayed. The screen has three buttons at the bottom
  1. Options
  2. Find
  3. an icon for the point on the map.
  4. Done
Tap the Options button: The Map detail Preferences appears, offering the choice to put a check mark in POI, Favorites, images. At the bottom of screen you have 3 buttons : POI, Advanced, Done.

Tap Advanced: In thsi screen you can put a checl mar on Names, Markers, and Coordinates.
Put a Check mark on Coordinates and press Done, Then Done again until you exit all those options.

Now your tomtom is configured to display coordinates. Be aware that GPS technology was created for military purposes and its civilian uses cannot be expected to offer pin point accuracy. It took an act of the US president to allow its use for civilian localization.

When you plan a route you can use longitude and latitude. Here is the icon you should like for.

Screen instructions in wrong language

You could try a HARD RESET

if you look at the bottom there is a small hole for re-setting the tom tom.

It is usually near the SD card slot

Insert the end of a paper clip in there, remove it then switch on.
