It sounds like you have bad solder joints in the tv. If you resolder the boards in the tv, it sounds like it will be fine. When you are slapping the tv, it is temproarly making contact again and fixing the picture..
You have actually diagnosed your own problem, Let me explain; the line "I can slap the left side of the tv and picture will almost always come back on" This indicate some form of poor connection (cold solder joint). If you have a soldering iron, solder (circuit type not pipe type), and a multimeter. Use the soldering iron and solder to redo the cold solder joints , and then test it (the connection) with the multimeter.
Hi jmvca: Most likely the tuner is starting to fail. When it is first turned on, tap or slap the side of the cabinet to see if it makes any difference.
The set will have to be repaired in a shop when it goes out completely.
how old is your plasma TV? try check the switch / volume of the sound settings.. Sometimes, when you always increase the volume, it will tend to alter the limit of sound and causing the sound to provide sound undesiredness. I suggest to check it with a liscensed technician.
Something like this Id have someone who knows there way around electronics, a qualified tech or someone you trust really well :-) Does the crackling affect the TV picture at all ? My first guess would be dust and or dampness on the audio components. Sometimes this can conduct electricity across small pc chips and reak all sorts of havoc. I had an old Tomas electric organ once, and it actually caught fire because two speaker wires were rubbing together and eventually wore thru the insulation and shorted out, but it was also making alot of crackling and static noises. Try raising and lowering the volume low to high and high to low and see if the crackling noises gets worse. Some audio amplifiers put out quite a bit of power, so I wouldnt trust leaving the TV on without a fire extinguisher handy.
The anode cap on the back of the tv tube is leaking the high voltage be careful as going into the back of a tv it store very high voltage and could be fatal.the solution to problem get a tube of clear or red silicone discharge the high from the tube, you do this by getting a alligator clip with wire attach clip to a ground wire on the back of the tube attached the other end of the wire to screw driver gently push it under the Anode cap you will hear a popping sound with i little sparks. remove the cap from off the tube get some alcohol wipe the dirt away apply the silicone around the anode and the anode cap place in on back and leave it to dry and cure for about 7 hrs close up back and turn on your tv and all the popping sound is gone.good luck.but if it is the wire for the anode cap that comes from the flyback is the one leaking change the flyback.again good luck.contact me on fixya.com or email me at [email protected]
I think it's a grounding problem. Actually, it's a necessity for all audio-video equipments to get grounded properly. If you don't have a ground connection in your AC plug, your receiver will collect more and more static electricity. As a matter of fact, it decreases the sound quality that you can get from your equipment. I think that the effect of your reaction (slapping the receiver) isn't coincidental. When you touch any metal surface on your receiver (even while slapping) you condact the static electricity to the ground.
I've had a same sort of problem with my receiver. Especially when I connected my laptop computer to the receiver, I heard an annoying distorted sound from the speakers. I found out that it was ground loop, which occurs when the negative (common) signal of the source coincides with the one of the receiver's. As a solution, I grounded my amp, changed all wires with new and shielded ones, and purchased an AC filter. Then, I got rid of the noise. I have to say that the AC filter (Belkin Pure AV Surge Protector, it also includes an AC signal filter)benefited me the most.
Having the same problem
