First try this: (Save your Norton KEY#) From your friends computer download the Norton removal tool and save it onto a disc. (Have a disc in the drive> save it there-it will be an exe file) Then put the disc in your drive. Locate your drive with the disc under my computer. Click on it and then click on the exe file. It should start to run immediately. After you have done this do a search under search /C/files and folders and search for "Norton" it should bring up all the leftover files and folders from old installations. you can delete those as well. You should also run a registry cleanup if you have a program for resgistry cleaning. Restart your computer and see if you can get on the internet now. If you can , go to www.comodo.com and download their free virus control firewall and install it (make sure you do a clean install-turn off any other running proggys.) Anyway, first let's see if you can get on the internet. Good Luck and if this does not work- don;t give up, we will try something else.

My packard bell dots won't accept my password

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

I have a Packard Bell ixtreme X6622 that worked beautifully until I decided to uninstall Norton and install Paretco anti virus trial software> I was then told about AVG and after reading about AVG...

Wow. No, it should not take that long to do a restore. The problem is stopping the restore MAY brick the system. Your problem seems to have started with the ParetoLogic. It seems this program will not uninstall properly unless you kill it in task manager first. http://support.paretologic.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2222917-how-to-uninstall-paretologic-internet-security-
This is strange because most security program cannot be disabled from task manager. Once you installed AVG you had 2 antivirus running at the same time - if not 3, Norton has been known to not uninstall cleanly. They even make a special removal tool. Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool
If the restore finishes - great, if it doesn't and you have to shut down the computer, it should roll back when you reboot. That puts you back to where you started so follow the instructions to remove Paretologic, run the Norton Removal tool and just to be sure, run the AVG Removal tool because the install might have been corrupted. http://www.avg.com/ca-en/utilities

Cant access files

I wouldn't try to install Norton on a machine I suspected had a virus (or at all really). There is a Norton removal tool on the Symantec website that might be useful, but you still need to get rid of the Trojan. There are a lot of free online virus scanners that should do the job. If you can go online in safe mode that would be best, or you could disable everything on startup using MSConfig.
