the short cable running from the power button to the main board has
probably snapped where it passes over the RH hinge. remove the screen
surround to gain access to the power on switch area and check. it would
seem to be a common fault with the packard bell
have a look on the net for a dismantle guide for your laptop model.
sometimes your laptop moniter connector works its way loose and its a case of wiggling it back in :-) its useually under the left hinge.
also if you have a vga port on your internal graphics card and no a friend with a crt or tft moniter try it and see if it works if it does then the problem is your screen.
