Error Code 90 Solution

Over time after about 5 to 6 years many Noritz heaters tend to display error code 90 and stop working. The unit has to be shut off and back on for it to work again for a short time. Error code 90 is indication of abnormal combustion and can have a few causes, including blockage in the exhaust vent. However the problems lies mostly with the combustion fan. that is the fan that you hear when the unit is running. It is unable to deliver enough air to normal combustion.
Replace the fan and while doing it clean the air pathway with compressed air. In addition remove the ignition and heat senors (all in one assembly, in the middle of the unit) and sand them very slightly with very fine sandpaper (400 or higher) to remove build up on them.
While the fan is being ordered you can at your own risk operate the unit with the cover slightly open (about 2 in.) at the bottom and the unit will run without code 90. It is highly recommended to hire a trained technician for the above work as gas appliances pose a significant danger to human life and property if not installed or maintained properly. How do I flush this unit

1) Copy following link for steps showing how to run white vinegar through Rheem tanklessx heat exchanger to partially remove scale that coats heat exchanger and reduces unit efficiency and causes error code IL:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html#de-lime

2) Tankless are prone to scale inside heat exchanger and require yearly deliming to mitigate effects. Do the required yearly maintenance to avoid common error codes.

3) Expected cost of maintenance and repair is more expensive than estimated $1-8 monthly energy-bill savings from owning tankless.

Before calling service technician, open following link for troubleshooting resources, including possible manual, and Rheem chat.

Rheem usually asks you to call local service technician.

There are many factors that cause problem you describe: bad PC board, sensor problem, loose wires, crossover in single-handled faucet, lime build-up in heat exchanger, clogged water filter.
The remote control might give you an error code. Error code is a starting point for troubleshoot.
Error code on one unit can have different cause than same error code on different unit.

Read manual for required maintenance.
Tankless require yearly maintenance.

Originally was receiving error code 11. Rheem sent me three new flame rods and a new controller board. after cleaning unit and replacing parts, it is getting error code 13 after approx 2 minutes of...

They show code 11 as no ignition on the rheem technical page but they do not show anything for code 13. Does it say what code 13 is on the unit somewhere...maybe inside the cover? Is this a direct vent model? What size gas line do you have going to the unit? Make sure it is not undersized. How is the water flow? Does it flash the code with all the faucets on? It might be a water flow issue. Let me know more info so I can assist you further.
