This is mainly because Windows has dropped its support to provide Windows Media Player's built-in DVD codec. Apart from this, Windows Media Player not playing DVD can be caused by player crashing troubles.

Hello,
If your are talking about the Windows Media Player, then there are several files which are incompatible with the WMP. For these formats to run on your Windows Media Player ( WMP ), you have to install a software whose name is K-Lite Codec Pack. By installing this pack, you will be able to play almost all media format files and even some rare ones.

Here is the solution.
To play DVD video you must have DVD decoder Codec.
So you can use power DVD softwares of VLC media players,these players decode the DVD video.If you had latest Power DVD software download and install it.Otherwise here is the link for free VLC media player Download
Download VLC player
otherwise download Trial version of Power DVD
Download Power DVD 9
